Sugar Art Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

Visited for the first time in ages. Received excellent service from one of the young female staff members.

But the experience was ruined by the foul-mouthed "we come here every day" customers - a disgusting environment that was compounded by the heavy stench of smoke that permeated throughout. Customers were rude to the staff and staff lacked any obvious support from a supervisor or manager.

From the other feedback here, I can only assume that the customer demographic changes at different times of day. Equally, the management is obviously not interested in serving a wider customer base.

It is disappointing to see how things have degraded from my previous visits.

I have no intention of returning until there are significant and obvious improvements.

There are enough options of better quality...

Outside corner Store in Macedon Plaza shopping centre. Nearly always busy and quite often jam packed. They have a very large range of cakes in individual serves which are beautifully displayed in large glass cabinets running the length of the long narrow store. Some of our favourites are the Lemon Meringue cake, Vanilla slices, Cannoli, Chocolate Mud Cake, Cheesecakes, etc etc. If you are after something in particular it's a good idea to place an order the day before as they frequently sell out of really popular items, especially the Vanilla Slice which is to die for. Upon reading some of the negative reviews, I just have to say:

Bring a pair of headphones if you can't stand the noise. Just like in any public space, your experience can be affected if there is someone else who needs to talk loudly or share their whole life story without being asked. (Staff or customers) I find the headphones prevents me from being upset 🤪

Second-hand smoke isn't great, but the staff do try their best to find you a table inside. And the space outside is for our fellow neighbours who can't quite kick the habit yet. The energy and camaraderie that flows in that space is nevertheless kind of cool to have in our...
