One of the better Filipino restaurant joints in Melbourne. Our go-to whenever we visit the western suburbia. Lately, however, the taste was hit and miss. Like the dinuguan for example, we usually get a big container every visit, when we ordered a catering tray few weeks ago it was too sour. And earlier today, their ginataan has too much “sago” that you can’t taste the coconut cream anymore. Same goes with the sisig, too much calamansi but on our previous orders it doesn’t have any that’s why the kids and the wife loves it as it’s very similar to Gerry’s Grill Sisig back in Manila. Calamansi can be given separately as not everyone likes it in their food and the lumpiang sariwa, they used smooth peanut butter that looks like it was blended in the sauce but before it was a proper lumpiang sariwa sauce sprinkled with ground peanuts. We can tell the difference as these has been our staple takeaway with 3-4 more dishes in every visit. The inconsistencies may have caused by different cooks having different styles of cooking (and taste as well) I think the management should set a standard of quality control of some sort in every dish. Their lechon, pancit canton/sotanghon mix and crispy fried boneless bangus are amazing though and staff were always polite...
Read moreNeat little store for Filos (and Filo loving people). Nearly everything that you crave for from back home. Store keepers are always busy, running around cooking, packing and serving, but never fails to smile. I like them addressing customers "kuya" and/or "ate", feels I am back in Manila. They are not perfect, but they do their best. I'd like to share my little incident, and how it was handle. Back in Sept, I bought 4 trays of fried food with them (fried chicken, lumpiang shanghai, fish fillet) for my teenagers party. At that time, both of their fryers broke down. And it took a long time to complete my orders. Chen was very apologetic and updated me from time to time during my long wait. And at the end, gave me 3 small trays of kakanin as token. I was a bit disappointed but more of the situation, I know breakdowns happens, and it was out of their control. But true to their service, they eventually delivered. It probably delayed our party for an hour, but it could have been a disaster if no food was ever served....
Read moreFilo shop, grocery and eatery! Small but terrible as too busy every time we go there. The shop/grocery is stock up with variety of goods that every thing you’re looking for is just there. Too busy with the food section as every one wants to eat there and it’s unfortunate that the eating area is quite small so take away is always the good option.
Love th food from kare-kare, dinuguan, pancit, pritong isda, empanada, kakanin and deserts like turon, karyoka, gulaman yum! Pandesal and all kinds of bread etc.
They have money transfer as well but have not tried that. Parking can be busy during weekend hence people are parking onto the lawns.
We get to meet fellow Filos we know and some Ausies too! Well recommended this place since staff are also polite. No public toilet...
