I Spicy Hawthorn — Restaurant in Melbourne

This is one of my favourite Thai restaurants in Melbourne. The taste is great especially the price is superbly right.

My girlfriends and I always meet up here for delicious Thai food after work. It doesn't really matter where we work, let just meet here.

Our favourite dishes are Softshell Crab, Papaya Salad, Stir Fry Morning Glory, Pork Shank, Deep Fried Fish with Apple Salad or with Three Flavour Sauce. For the three flavour they also serve it with fish fillets. Their fish cakes are good too. We always order to share.

They used to have Yum Mama (instance noodles salad), but they took this off the menu and I was so devastated. Not many Thai restaurant would offer this dish.

Their staffs are always very friendly and always serve with big smile on their face.

Worst service ever encountered. The lady don't seem happy to work at all. My daughter accidentally tipped water on the table. Ask the lady to clean up and she threw the cloth on the table and walked away to get a mop. She's expecting us to clean it. We did but it's all wet. She came and quickly clean the table again and splash the edge of the water onto my jeans. Just walked away leaving the table all wet. So I get 3 tissue from their counter to wipe the table dry. Can't believe what she did next. She took the tissue box into the kitchen and don't supply any tissue, some basic amenities for restaurant, to people who needs them. I even asked her for tissue after and she ignored me. What a service they provide. I use to love this place. Now it just sickens me looking at people...

Sometimes, I have to ask myself why do I still come back? I guess the food here's great - excellent value and full flavoured. The kha-na moo krob (chinese brocolli with crispy pork) on rice and beef pad see ew are some of my favourite dishes, with runny fried egg and thai milk tea of course. But you know what really grinds my gears - the service. I sincerely, do not expect much of a hole in the wall like this place, but service can sometimes be just straight up "screw-you". Too many times has it just been plain rude, and any sign of retaliation has just been met with "you don't have to come back". If it's of any consolation, the food here is good enough for me to tolerate this madness. Plus, the occasional friendly dude behind...
