They may have reopened under new management, but I still recognize that bald pizza guy who has been working there for years. He doesn't make eye contact, let alone look at you. All he does is make pizza and he is in the zone. And he is really good at it.
Forgot to take pictures of the pizza, but they are at the same consistently high standard. This is an Italian style pizza joint, meaning good quality ingredients (think San Marzano tomatoes, bufala mozarella, proscuitto) and none of that fake ham you get in typical suburban pizza joints or Domino's. The dough is all important - here, it is slightly sweet, has a yeasty flavour (suggesting a long fermentation), and smokiness from the wood fire.
A note on the Zeppole (Italian donuts). I thought that it is supposed to be fried Choux pastry, but this is definitely not Choux. The consistency is more similar to pizza dough, meaning it is quite chewy. I am not Italian so I don't know if there are regions that make Zeppole like this. Regardless, it is VERY GOOD even if I am too ignorant to vouch for its authenticity. The Nutella provides richness, and the strawberries some welcome tartness and freshness.

Read moreA nice Italian restaurant located in Camberwell. We went to this place for our birthday gathering and the waiters were very nice and friendly. It was nice to see the cooks make the pizza right in front of you and you also get to see them putting the pizza into the woodfire oven. The food came out quite fast considering how much food we ordered. They all came out around the same time so did didn’t have to wait have to wait for long before we could all tuck into our food. The pizzas were all very nicely cooked. The pizza base was very thin as well. My margarita pizza got a bit burnt on the sides but I like that in my pizza. You burnt taste actually complements the pizza itself. The basil was also very fresh and fragrant. For dessert we had the cannoli siciliani which was also very nice. It wasn’t very sweet but and it wasn’t too creamy as well which was a nice surprise. Overall, we enjoyed the food at this restaurant and I would recommend my family and friends to visit this little pizza joint when they have time or if they were in...

As a fussy Italian and former pizzaiolo in my previous work life , and also being a very fussy eater who is very careful and selective of where i choose to eat.
In saying this, tonight my partner and I had an awesome dining experience at il Birrificio.
It was exceptional in terms of the quality of the pizza that was coming out of the oven
This pizza dough was very good, not doughy, it was light and with great quality ingredients .
The service from the waiting staff was very friendly and excellent.
All i can say is these guys would give those other well known pizzerias a run for their money in terms of quality and authenticity.
A big grazie to you Santos and your team, there is the rest and there is the best.
Il Birrificio as far as I’m concerned is one of the best.
Keep up the great quality pizza you are stretching and serving.
Until next time, as they say in Italian “capo Lavoro e Buona...
