I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the culinary masterpiece that is Lai Bakery, and let me tell you, it was a sandwich experience like no other. I decided to venture into uncharted territory and ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich. Now, I must say, when I say "uncharted territory," I mean the tastebud wonderland that is Lai Bakery, because the second that sandwich arrived, I knew I was in for something truly extraordinary.
First things first, the chicken schnitzel was cut with the precision of a ninja wielding a samurai sword. It was like each piece had been meticulously measured by the Sandwich Fairy herself to ensure perfect consistency. I mean, if there was a Chicken Schnitzel Olympics, Lai Bakery would definitely take home the gold!
But wait, there's more! The butter to mayo ratio on that sandwich was sent from the heavens. It was so heavenly that I wouldn't be surprised if it had a choir of angels singing in the background. If I could put that ratio in a bottle and sell it, I'd be a billionaire.
And let's not forget the lettuce and carrot. They were grated to perfection, so fine that they practically melted in my mouth. It's as if the vegetables had attended Vegetable Charm School and graduated with honors.
But here's the real kicker: the salt and pepper were evenly distributed across the sandwich. I'm convinced they had a Sandwich Sensei ensuring that each grain of salt and speck of pepper was in its rightful place. It was like a perfectly choreographed dance of flavors.
Now, you might think, "Well, anyone can do it once," but Lai Bakery didn't stop there. They followed it up with a "surprise" second sandwich, almost identical to the first one, and they absolutely killed it. It's as if they said, "Oh, you thought the first one was good? Hold my sandwich!"
Lai Bakery, you've officially set the bar for sandwich artistry so high that I might need a ladder to reach it. If you're in the mood for a sandwich experience that's out of this world, look no further. Lai Bakery is the place to be, and they've got the sandwich magic to prove it!
In conclusion, hats off to the stunning sandwich sorceress of Lai Bakery, whose culinary prowess has left me in a delicious daze. And to our sandwich artist extraordinaire, I must say, you've turned me into a "schnitzel groupie" for life! Keep crafting those masterpieces, and I'll keep coming back for more munchie masterworks. With buttery bites and mayo magic, you've won my heart and stomach, one sandwich at a time. Bravo, maestro of...
Read moreWas in Sunbury on ANZAC day and craving for a meat pie. Saw Lai Bakery / I ♡ Bánh Mì has 4.5 stars and tried it out. When I pulled up around lunchtime the place was already full of people waiting for their orders.
Ordered the pork ball banh mi with everything, they offer both crunchy and soft rolls here, I got the crunchy.
Order was made with care, salad super fresh, loaded with three pork balls (I thought the lady serving me was cutting up enough for another order..!) that aren't sickly sweet, paté was nice, should've ordered extra!
Nearly forgot about my pie! Got a plain beef. The filling feels like the result of proper slow cooking and a lot of manual labour: bursting with super soft meat, not overly gelatinous or artificially stock driven flavour. Pastry had that soft, buttery nature, not the crunchy flakey style. I like both. Only gripe was that it wasn't all that hot and I left it sitting on the table outside while I was lost in my banh mi (🤤)
I've been writing this while still eating and there has been a line out the door for the entire time. Even the birds outside look super healthy 😆 Seriously! I've of the largest and shiniest crows I've ever seen.
This is one of those proper family affairs. The selection of sweet things looks like the standard options, the custard tarts did stand out. Cold drink options look like those small brands that you can only get in country towns, which is good!
Would I come again? Yes! Would I come from Rezza just for it? Not really, there's amazing Banh Mi much closer to home, but this place is awesome 👌...
Read moreHow sad is to see a business drop so much! The quality (since my precious review) has gone. I thought it was due to new staff members or just the fact that some days things can be not as good but no, it has been happening for the past 2 months. The sizes of rolls, croissants and other things have diminished A LOT, the breadstick looks like a grissini (so thin it is), the pork sandwich struggles to maintain its name as there is always no pork inside and this is just the start. The food lost not only size but also taste. This place was really a nice place to go but now I am not able to recommend it at all... and probably it will be a long time before I am able to do another review as I have no intention to keep trying and find out if they improve their product. There are other places really nice around Sunbury and it is a pity this is no longer one of them.
OLD REVIEW below
Great staff, great food. The bakery is under new management but they not only maintained the quality of the products that were already offered but also introduced various new items to the menu. The bread tolls are still the best and the sandwiches are simply delicious. The Danishes, bread sticks, slices and croissants are so good and also the size is generous. My favorites are the Roast Pork Sandwich, Escargot, Croissants and the bread cheese sticks,,, but I still have a lot of new...
