Located in the heart of Balwyn, Laurent offers a cozy retreat for those seeking a sweet escape. With a history of consistently good pastries, this cafe has become a local favorite. However, does it live up to the hype, especially considering its price tag? Let's dig in.
First up, the Berry Danish. While it didn't quite hit the high notes, scoring a modest 2.5 out of 5, it still offered a decent start to the tasting journey. Next, the Monte Carlo Cake took center stage with a respectable 3.5 out of 5. Its layers of sweetness danced on the taste buds, leaving a lingering satisfaction.
Moving on to the Chocolate Macaroons, which unfortunately fell short at 2.5 out of 5. While they weren't terrible, they failed to stand out in a city known for its exceptional treats. Finally, the Long Black Coffee rounded off the experience with another 2.5 out of 5. It provided the necessary kick but lacked the depth of flavor expected from a premium brew.
Now, let's talk dough. Laurent's pastry game is strong and has been for years. However, the prices don't quite match up to the competition in Melbourne. For what you're paying, you could find yourself indulging in superior delights elsewhere.
So, what keeps the patrons coming back? It's not just the pastries; it's the atmosphere. Laurent offers a cozy environment that invites you to linger over your treats. Add in its strategic location, and you've got a winning combo.
But be warned: this sweet spot comes at a price, both in terms of dollars and calories. While the free 1-hour parking is a nice touch, it might not be enough to offset the dent in your wallet.
In conclusion, if you're in the mood for a leisurely pastry experience and don't mind splurging a bit, Laurent could be your jam. However, if you're on the hunt for the best bang for your buck, you might want to explore other options in Melbourne's...
Read moreI love this place, and has been going here for so many times but today I had a bit of weird experience with them and I had to write over here so at least the management can know what are their staff is doing. I have placed an order on Uber for delivery at 12:15 pm and expected to be ready by 12:45 ish Unfortunately either they forget to press the order complete button or anything, the status has been "the store is preparing your order" until 1 pm. We are ordering chicken focaccia & San Danielle which we doubt it will take more than 10 minutes to prepared. So we called them and they said the order is ready but cant get any driver. Fair enough, so we changed the order from Delivery to pick up so we can just go there and pick up. Arrived at the store 10 minutes after, (at this time its already 1:45 pm) and well the order is NOT READY and ask us to wait further 15 minutes over there. I do not think this is Uber fault and it is just very disappointing to speak with the staff as they keep saying they are busy and don't know which one is our order etc (and being rude) , thus I am writing this review so at least the management team can see what your staff is doing...
Read moreLaurent is well known around Melbourne for its high quality food, cakes and cafes. It had been a long time between visits and it won’t be in the future. On a Sunday morning, this place was almost full with people having brunch, a coffee, lunch, reading newspapers, grabbing some takeaway or like me, picking up some macaroons as a gift. I would’ve liked to have taken more photos but it’s not always cool to snap pictures of the food on display. And doubt I could do what’s on offer justice anyway. The cakes and sweet treats are amazing and although not cheap, they are excellent. There is also a large range of croissants, rolls, foccacias and more. Coffee is pretty good. Staff are extremely helpful even when rushed off their feet as they were on Sunday morning. Laurent in Balwyn is kid friendly (including high chairs). It’s also wheelchair accessible. Parking out the front isn’t too bad – depending on the time of day. There are morning restrictions for city...
