Review:
We loved our experience here today. We’d been keen to visit. Everything works and the cafe is up there with the best Melbourne venues. It has fantastic food, coffee and service.
Legacy has super modern decor. It’s urban chic highlighting exposed bricks with lined timber. There was good music on the sound system and the space felt really good overall. I began with a wonderfully delectable long black. The coffee was the Maven by Maker Fine Coffee and is from Colombia. The coffee is utterly beautiful. It’s beautiful, it’s full bodied and it’s thrillingly smooth. This is seriously good coffee and it’s made very skillfully here.
We were seated near the pass and saw a range of delicious looking meals coming out. We’d spotted a few dishes being enjoyed by other customers. The Legacy buttermilk fried chick bao looked fantastic and so it proved. There are three on a plate and they’re delicious. Soft and tangy with super tender chicken. They have lovely spicing. These are fantastic and have terrific texture and flavour.
Our key interest today though was the beautiful healthy bowls available at Legacy. We’d been hanging out for them after seeing the Instagram pics and reading various reviews online. The sushi bowl is a cracker. We both wanted it but I lost out. The bowl delivers everything you could wish for. The warm rice is flavored nicely and the salmon well encrusted with sesame. This is served together with a generous serve of avocado, sliced radish, edamame and cute little fried egg and fried shallots that combined make a truly terrific meal. My partner adored it and proclaimed it the best healthy bowl she’d ever had. I had a taste and had to agree it was outstanding. My dish was the nourish bowl with poached egg which was also a lovely combination. The dish is bursting with freshness. It has a luscious hummus with a lovely hit of tahini and lemon. Add cherry tomatoes, chick peas, cabbage, spinach and carrots and it all rests on a bed of beautifully cooked warm brown rice. The carrots had just the slightest crunch. It’s a great dish as well and is really nicely arranged and presented. These are very very good healthy bowls. We loved both of them.
I finished with a turmeric latte on soy. This was soft, creamy, spicy, and gorgeous. It’s a delicious offering. My partner’s skinny flat white was a cracker too. Service was excellent throughout from all the staff here. They’re warm friendly and engaging with all customers and are a serious asset to the business. Our visit to Legacy was a great experience. It’s an excellent cafe. We want to return for several dishes including the green folded eggs which sound amazing.
Our sincere thanks to Costa for the invitation to...
Read moreI have been wanting to dine at Legacy in Camberwell for some time so was great to head in there the other day and try their menu. We had their Lamb Super Salad with additional Haloumi, their Sushi Bowl, and their Breakfast board amongst ourselves.
The breakfast board came out first and was fairly generous. It came with a super tasty avo smash and poached egg, a somewhat sweet acai, yogurt breakfast bowl, mini croissant and an orange juice. A lot of people were ordering these and it’s a perfect taster of for someone who can’t decide.
The Lamb super salad had slow cooked pulled lamb on greens with grains, chickpeas and all this siting on a surreal beetroot sauce. I really enjoyed this dish and the additional of haloumi was a genius on our part (costs extra).
Lastly the Sushi bowl was a perfect specimen… Loving that these are being produced far and wide these days… long may they last. The seared fish, avo and kewpie combo alone was to die for and I would say this was the favourite of the dishes we tried.
In additional to food we also tried the Mr Brightside smoothie which was a sexy looking drink containing dragon fruit. Was the colour of the outside of dragon fruit and was a super tasty meal in itself. Can’t complain about coffee either… I’m fussy and usually have to ask for strong but could get away without the need to extra shot it … just.
Service was friendly and meal turnaround times very reasonable to considering the 11am time slot when I...
Read moreMy friend and i visited on Saturday 1st July around 9:30am, it was already quite busy by that time but we got a seat straight away on the communal table, was just a bit of a tight squeeze. Definitely need to be comfortable bumping elbows with a stranger if you're seated there.
I had the eggs benny with a side of bacon, overall was ok but the hash browns were dry and bland. The bacon was cooked well and tasty, I just prefer mine thinly sliced. My friend had the green folded egss which was a nice healthy meal but she thought was just ok. Portion sizes are large so definitely value for money, but if you prefer smaller portions you may want to split the meal with a friend. All the ingredients were high quality and fresh so no complaints there. The desserts in the front window looked delicious, we just didn't get a chance to try any.
The coffee was why i gave 3 stars rather than 4, i believe the barista's did a good job of making it, it was the coffee bean I didn't like, quite bitter, my friend also didn't like it. The place is also quite cold and drafty so in winter you need to rug up, there wasn't anything warm and comfortable able the place. Staff were attentive and professional and coffee and food came out quickly so for service i would give 5 stars.
As I'm not a local I wouldn't go out of my way to return here for brunch or coffee but if i was in the area i would definitely...
