Editing my 5 star review to 1 star after the recent rise in popularity and volume. No issues with the food, the downgrade in rating is due to the online order system. I had this issue on 2 occasions, ordered via online to save time in queue. On both occasions i ordered 10 minutes before arriving for pickup with the website giving a default 20m wait time. I let the glasses male cashier know i made an online order and he acknowledges the order and told us to wait. improvement can be made here with clearer consistent instructions on the website or training of staff.
In my first online order experience, I waited longer than people who ordered at the store after i arrived for pickup. I noticed my order wasnt even started. The pickup process was me telling them i have arrived, the the order begins preparation, then they call my name for pickup.
On 2nd order experience, i let the cashier know I have an online order. He tells me to wait with no further instructions. I noticed there was a tall lanky boy at the back doing what seems to be online orders. And 4 other staff preparing in store orders. Again people who ordered after I arrived received my order before me. Defeating the purpose of skipping the queue. The lanky boy finished what looks like my order and it just sat at the back counter and with no notification or calling out of the order name. I had to ask for the order.
I think some form of progress notification system on the screens would be nice. Or just consistent process/training on the online order pickup process. More importantly, same treatment of queue/preparation position for online orders - not have a single junior staff at the back working on online orders only.

Read moreIf you're looking for the best banh mi in town, Luke's Banh Mi is the undisputed champ! Their sandwiches are an explosion of flavor, featuring perfectly roasted, succulent proteins that redefine Vietnamese street food. The toppings are generous, fresh, and expertly balanced—each bite feels like a masterpiece. Even for vegans, they’ve got thoughtfully crafted options that’ll satisfy without compromise (though I’ll admit, I've never tried the vegan options but I hear it's tofu good).
Easily the best banh mi you’ll find in Melbourne, if not Australia. We’ve been regulars since their humble beginnings, and it’s been amazing to see them grow. The quality has remained consistent, even as their popularity has skyrocketed (yes, there’s usually a queue now, but it’s worth every minute!).
Our go-to choices are the lemongrass chicken, BBQ pork, or their signature crackling pork, which are just as spectacular in a noodle bowl as they are in a roll. And don’t forget to grab a Vietnamese coffee—it’s the perfect companion for any meal. If you want to relive the days of ordering a "Pork Roll from St Albans for $2.50", their Vietnamese Ham / Cold Cut is the cult classic I crave now, takes me back to my uni days in the 2000s.
But with plenty of delicious options that celebrate Vietnam’s culinary heritage while adding Luke’s signature flair - you'll see him working baking usually! Incredible food, unbeatable value, and a vibe that makes every visit feel special—Luke's Banh Mi is truly a must-try! I reckon they'd put this on Lonely Planet if we didn't have these instadoofuses.
There's plenty of shots of the goods, so here's one of...
Read moreThe Luke's Favourite Bánh Mì from Luke’s Bakery in Moonee Ponds is an absolute masterpiece. The combination of charcoal-grilled pork and beef wrapped in betel leaves is nothing short of spectacular. The charcoal pork is cooked to perfection, with a deep, rich flavor that just melts in your mouth. The beef wrapped in betel leaves adds a unique twist, with each bite offering a delightful, aromatic depth. Both sandwiches are generously packed with crispy fried charlottes, fresh herbs, and just the right amount of chilli to give it a gentle, but satisfying kick without overpowering the flavors. The balance of butter and pâté is perfectly measured, elevating the richness of the sandwich. The chicken bánh mì, though lean, is equally savory, with mind-blowing flavors that leave you craving more. Every element comes together harmoniously, making this bánh mì truly unforgettable! It’s even nicer than the one I’ve had in Vietnam, truly spectacular, I would have regretted so bad if I missed this one in Moonee ponds 0.0 I’m one female but I couldn’t walk away from it without buying two so I bought two 😂 definitely worth the calories any day!
Can’t wait to be back to try the others with my friends, definitely the coffee next up!!!
4.7 rating is definitely under rated! Seems long queue but servers were quick with their hands while keeping that quality of the bahn mi! Hence I did not wait for long. On top of that they have a QR for you to use for future use if you want to...
