Lutong Pinoy — Restaurant in Melbourne

Been going to this place for a while now(the Footscray market Foodcourt) and it's always been amazing because it had that carinderia feel to it; generous serves, the staff are amazing and the food delicious and comforting, there isn't another establishment that can hold a candle to this one IMHO.

After seeing that they closed up in Footscray, I finally drove out and WOW! I love how this place doesn't try to be something that it isn't and the fact that everything down to the decor is exactly how I imagined carinderia would be if it was in Australia. Visuals aside, their food is no joke, it's as authentic as it can get, you can order ahead if you don't want to pick out of the Bain Marie and you know you're getting what you paid for... Did I mention they have catering options too? Thinking about tricking the extended family...

Ordered: • Dinuguan • Mechado

Service: Staff were very friendly and helped me pick out what to try as I had not heard of a few of these dishes.

Food: • The mechado has a rich and savory taste, it was tangy and slightly sweet which I think comes from the tomato base. The beef pieces were fully cooked through, making them tougher but it wasn't really a issue for me tbh. • The dinuguan tasted very unique, but I actually really liked it. It has a very savory flavour and was extremely tangy and slightly metallic (I think it's because of the pig blood used for the dish). It also had a sour note which I think comes from the vinegar used - it helped cut through the richness of the pork.

Lutong Pinoy in Deer Park is a cosy, home-like venue where the food truly shines! We had a variety of traditional Filipino dishes shared between friend like Kaldereta, Kare-Kare, Sinigang, Longaniza, Lechon Kawali and Dinuguan, with a serving rice (true Filipino style). Every dish was delicious and brought back memories of my mum’s cooking. The service was fantastic and friendly too, making the experience even better.
