Matte Black — Restaurant in Melbourne

Today I was fortunate enough to have lunch at Matte Black Cafe. I had the chicken skewers, which were delicious! The chicken was cooked to perfection and you could tell that good quality chicken had been used as there was no fatty pieces. I would definitely have this meal again. I also had a chai latte, which was perfect! Best chai latte ever!

On another note, the customer service at this venue was amazing. I was supposed to eat lunch with a group of friends and my daughter, who is in a pram, at another restaurant in the area. The staff at that place were rude and would not accommodate our group and the pram. I was in tears by the time I arrived at Matte Black but thankfully the staff advised me that they would comfortably seat us all and that the pram was no issue. They re-arranged all the tables and chairs to provide a larger table and a place to comfortably store the pram.

Had a lunch business meeting here today. Had booked for the courtyard. Yes staff were welcoming BUT when only 2 of the 3 food orders arrived I expected my superfood bowl to be not far away, especially when one of the other orders was also a superfood bowl. Asked my guests to start their meals. Waited approx 10-15 minutes and then went and asked where my meal was. The wait staff said "there had been a mix up in the kitchen and it's only 5 minutes away." I went back to the table and after another 10-15 minutes went back in (interrupting the conversation at our table yet again) and told the staff to cxl as my guests had finished eating. We departed not long afterwards. A chance to recover from such poor service was also lost - no offer to give me something to take away or to deduct the coffees from the bill. NOTHING/ZIP .. Nothing apart from a feeble "sorry about that." And no, there was no shortage of staff....

We had breakfast here this morning. The surroundings were lovely and bright and the food was delicious. I had the jackpot / one of the nicest breakfasts that I have had. My husband had a cooked breakfast and he could not fault it. The coffee was as ordered “ hot” not lukewarm as we have encountered lately. We will definitely go back. We went there yesterday for breakfast. The price of the Jackpot is now $19.50 previously it was $12.00. A price INCREASE of OVER 50 per cent. The website still advertises it for $12.00.
