4.3. Here’s how to do it. This is a lovely bright corner cafe. It has a really nice feel inside and out. It has great outdoor seating options in the right weather. It just has that comfortable friendly aura here. Mavis’ shows that quality of service is key. One of Melbourne’s top cafe owners told me last week that quality of service was the most important thing of all. He’s right. It’s critical. With that in mind I received a joyous greeting here from the server with the white shocked hair, “...how are you, man”. Other customers received, “...how are ya!”, and other similar happy greetings. On being thanked by me for my coffee being delivered to the table, I received a “...no worries, my man”. He is fantastic and he personifies great service. Friendly and engaging with everyone but not intrusive or annoying. Just perfect in fact. The tables are a bit close together in some spots here. I was sort of part of my neighbours’ convo but neither I nor they minded and we had a quiet chuckle about it. It’s s good menu here. Small but thoughtfully composed. A place to return to. I just had a jaffle today. I couldn’t resist it. One with gruyere and baked beans. A delicious snack complete with crinkle cut chips on the side. The jaffle was delicious. The baked beans decent beans. Not the usual canned commercial beans. Proper beans. The cheese was delicious too. It was all nicely cooked and presented. I loved it. My long black was a beauty as well. A very good Melbourne coffee. As strong as my last one was weak. With the lovely length that my last one so lacked. This is a cracking cafe. It’d be near bliss outside here on a nice day. Highly recommended. I shall be back for sure.

I could like this local gem ... A bit hidden, only a local would know, despite running parallel with Hoddle St. It seems far from the madding crowd; tree lined street, sunlight, glorious golden hue from those Maple trees leaves. The cafe is housed within this tastefully converted period building, it's "glorious" remnant still intact; high ceiling, big glass windows, indoor and outdoor, and most importantly, they know how to make coffee and Chai latte. Warm and comfortable, we shall come back to explore more ... I could like this local gem. JT-May 2019.

Randomly entered Marvis the Grocer for lunch after my business in Abbotsford. Though i did not have any expectations, this little cafe/grocer is fantastic. Plenty of natural lights through big windows, super friendly yet non-intrusive serving staff and great choice of songs in the background. To top it all off, the foods taste amazing with fresh ingredients and the portion is very generous for the price. Highly recommended!

An extremely disappointing and terribly frustrating local - definitely does not meet the standards of Melbourne's cafes and particularly in Abbotsford. We have been three times now to support and because "let's see if they've improved" however all times orders were misplaced, incorrect, required follow ups and countless issues. Perhaps a good place for the quick take away coffee but certainly not for food or dine in experience. There's only so many times a diner can be told "oh, sorry we're just really busy today and there's two chefs"...sorry. Having to patiently wait 30, then 40, then over 60 minutes for simple toast and eggs is outrageous... coffee order was also forgotten about until requested again. While I could go on for another few lines it is not worth complaining. Just simply don't go. Staff are okay, however appear scattered and very unaware. Witnessed many incorrect orders being brought out to tables and overall a disorganised business. Plenty of other nearby delicious, reliable, professional local cafes to dine at such as Au79, Loosie Grind, Admiral Cheng-Ho. Wasted over an hour, going on 2 hours being here today....

This is a friendly well run cafe with many tasty dishes crossing over breakfast, lunch and snacks, with both standard choices on the printed menu (from jaffles to bigger offerings which all look worth trying) plus a blackboard list of specials including omelettes. Some have an interesting twist in the range of flavours on offer. The coffee is good plus juices, complimentary sparkling or tap water etc. You can sit inside at small tables or a large communal one, outside or in the back area under shady cover among the plants, herbs and so forth. There is an unobtrusive but interesting playlist to help you enjoy the relaxing atmosphere unless you only have time for takeaways, which means you should...
