Curdled milk chunks in my matcha... I'm a local and thought I'd try an iced matcha latte from the cute Japanese cafe around the corner. As I was walking home and drinking out of my takeaway cup, I was surprised to get some chunks in the drink. It wasn't until I got home that I could open the lid and see that they were milk chunks inside 🤢 I didn't order any alternative milk, so I don't know if something happened or if the milk has gone bad, but it was very disappointing 😔 EDIT: After receiving the below response from the owner, I believe that to be the correct scenario. Thank you for providing an explanation! But I would recommend the barista or staff let the customer know that there's the option (or not) to have cream on top for this drink. I've never had to ask a cafe to strain the milk for my coffee before, so of course I wouldn't think to request it.

We went there on a busy Saturday morning, and there was a group of 4 waiting to be seated when we arrived, so we just joined the queue behind them. After a while, the staff came and told them that there were some seats available now. The group didn't like those seats or something and decided to leave , so I was thinking we were in luck cuz we didn't mind those seats. We stepped up right after them, but the staff just turned away as if she didn't see us. We saw her went to grab water for a table of guests and we thought she would come back after that. But then she just stood at the counter, seemly waiting for coffee or food to come out. We were clearly visible in her sight, and there was another group behind us waiting to get in too, but we were completely ignored. We waited for a few mins, tried to raise hand, make eye contact, but nothing worked. We didn't want to yell for attention either, because they definitely could see us already. We ended up leaving in disappointment and confusion. We didn't understand why they seemed so attentive with the group in front of us, yet...

Long famous in Melbourne's cafe scene is Admiral Cheng Ho, specialising in artisanal coffee and vegetarian friendly food made from scratch. A small space on a quiet street in Abbotsford, there's no pretentious here and everyone who walks through the door is treated like a regular.

Coffee is their expertise. Consistently amazing, you will never get a bad cup of coffee here. Fresh juices and fairtrade teas round up the beverage menu.

The Admiral's Acai Bowl is one of the best acai bowl around. Smooth and creamy texture, topped with fresh fruits, and the house made granola is a textural delight.

The Northside Jimbo also hit the spot. The corn bread is soft, slightly crumbly yet dense enough to maintain its shape, and the freshness of the tomatoes is exceptional. The miso vegemite combined with chilli oil lent a piquant umami flavour to the dish, while the creamy avo helped balanced out all the bold punchy flavours.

Faultless from start to finish, which is why I will always return...

Ordered 3 coffees ($7 each for a standard cup?) : 1 cappuccino, 2 lattes (initially ordered 1 capp, 1 latte, 1 mocha but swapped the mocha for a latte instead). Lady who took our order repeated our order and it was all good.

Gentleman served 4 coffees: 1 capp, 2 lattes, 1 mocha. Returned mocha and he took it away. Lady who took our order came back to give it to us muttering something incoherent. Hello?? Why are you insisting on something we did not order? Anyway, didn't want to make a fuss further so we just accepted it. Coffee was good nonetheless.

Ordered 3 teishokus: salmon $28, chicken katsu $24, agedashi tofu $21 - rice portion is small. Taste-wise: ok, nothing special but not terrible.

Ordered 2 salmon onigizari. Menu priced $7.50 each. This was the biggest joke because I received 2 HALVES for $18 ("set" price for 2 onigiri + Miso soup). Do not order. Scammed.

Giving you 1 star because you insisted on a coffee we didn't order, rice portion too small, onigiri set you selling...
