The most unprofessional, rude people I have ever dealt with in my life. The owner Evangelos, called us in the morning after having dinner there at night, and accused us of stealing his "Clay fish". When asked what he was talking about, he said he would be calling the police if we did not bring them back, and that his "camera footage shows you putting them in the pram". After asking multiple times out of confusion what he was talking about, he just cut me off and said he would be calling the police. It was later revealed that his clay fish that were in reach of our 1 year old, so they were moved into near box at the tavern, with his waitresses there, (who was very good with our toddler and professional) so our 1 year old could not reach them. Instead of looking in their immediate area, Evangelos thought it would be a better idea to call his customers the next day and accuse us of stealing and blatantly lied, saying he saw us through camera footage place them in the pram and that his camera footage shows it. After he realised he was in the wrong when our friends called and let him know to look in the box, he called us to give a half hearted apology but then stating "In his 20 years he has never seen anyone move items in his restaurant". Zero accountability for the accusations and blatant lieing, he then backtracked and stated he "thought" he saw us place them in the pram (A far cry from his lies on the phone) and he apologises for it. Completeley unacceptable behaviour from a business owner. His response to another review from our friends is "Do you really want to go down this path?" and that his clay fish were "glued down" clearly lieing again. Instead of taking accountability and ownership for your actions and writing nonsense, the question you should be asking yourself is do YOU really want to go down this path? As a business owner, your professionalism, customer service, and ethics is nothing short of disgraceful, and if you continue to avoid responsibility for your actions we will ensure every patron around the Elsternwick and surrounding suburbs is aware of what has occurred and never has to deal with this shocking behaviour again. For the record, the food is also completeley average, meats overcooked, under portioned and completeley overpriced. A nice peaceful Saturday night with two families with their babies, completeley ruined. Had he taken accountability for his actions and just admitted he jumped the gun and made a big error with the whole scenario and taken ownership of fault, we would be happy to move on, but it's clear his ego is far too big. Think carefully before...
Read moreCan confirm Kristina's review above. Only two tables were occupied on that Friday - the rest of the restaurant was empty. We were in a hurry and two of us not very hungry, so ordered two mains - prawns saganaki and whitebait - and three entrees - two dips, salad and fried calamari. We also brought with us a bottle of wine for which there would be a $15 corkage. Kristina doesn't eat lamb or chicken, hence all the seafood. The friendly and professional waiter told us that the chef wouldn't be happy with such a small order, but he'd see what he could do. He came back to tell us neither the prawns saganaki nor the whitebait were available. There weren't any other mains that appealed to us, so we bumped up the calamari to a main and added dolmades - really trying to help them out here. So that's a mains Calamari ($32), Salad ($10), Two dips and bread ($19) Dolmades ($13) and corkage ($15). Given that it was an empty restaurant on a Friday night, you'd think they'd welcome $89 plus tips for a short stay.
Waiter came back - chef says that's not good enough. Says you have to order more or leave. We left. Kristina wrote that review (below) and their reply was the same rude arrogance as we experienced in the restaurant, even pretending that we had ordered less than Kristina said we did. Read it for yourself. Astounding arrogance! Kristina had just moved in 50 metres away and looking for local restaurants to visit repeatedly, but won't be going back now, so they have lost repeat custom as well. No wonder they were empty on a Friday night. Really feel sorry for that waiter though. Must be tough having to work with that chef, and pretty hard to make tips off people walking...
