One of my neighbours has shared that there's a new Thai restaurant recently opened in the area. My lovely wife didn't feel like making dinner on Saturday night, we decided to give it a try to order some takeaway.
Meetang Thai Kitchen has a modern-looking and easy-to-use website that allows customers to pre-order their dishes in advance and pick them up at the desired time. We placed our order at 4:30, which is before the restaurant's open hours, and set to pick up at 6 pm.
We decided to order the "Meetang Arancini" for entree, "Thai Sweet Basil and Chilli Stir Fry with Tofu", and "Crispy Chicken with Honey Soy Sauce Stir Fried" for mains. We have also ordered a "Chicken Pad Thai" and "Roti with Satay Sauce" for carbs (kids love carbs...).
Meetang Arancini I know what an Italian Arancini is but I didn't know what to expect from "Arancini" in a Thai restaurant. I can tell you I was totally hooked on it after the first bite. In simple words, it is chicken meatballs with a surprise. Usually, for meatballs, I would expect the inside would be totally meaty with an almost mushy texture. "Meetang Arancini" were deep fried until golden brown on the outside. The texture of the "Meetang Arancini" is very interesting. It has this rustic texture(I think it is the herbs and spices) and the chicken mince is soft and tender. The meatballs are bite size and they go so well with the dipping sauce. (Lettuces are very expensive nowadays and they use crispy lettuces to put underneath the meatballs.
Thai Sweet Basil and Chilli Stir Fry with Tofu When I opened the lid for this dish, I was like... this is a vegan dish how come it looks so beautiful!!! (Sorry for Vegans out there, I do have a bias for vegan dishes). There are a lot of colorful and crunchy vegetables stir-fried together. The chilli has given it a great kick in the favor.
Crispy Chicken with Honey Soy Sauce Stir Fried I am Chinese and we eat a lot of rice. There is slang, "Rice Theif", we use to describe a dish that tastes so good and it makes you eat a lot of rice without even knowing. The "Crispy Chicken with Honey Soy Sauce Stir Fried" is exactly a "Rice Theif". The favor of this dish is so BIG and it will make you want to eat so much rice. It is unfortunate I am on my Keto and I could only eat a few bites of rice...
Chicken Pad Thai I have 20+ years of having "Chicken Pad Thai". I know what a good Chicken Pad Thai is. My favorite "Chicken Pad Thai" was from Lemongrass on Lygon Street - unfortunately, it was closed a while back. I haven't had a Chicken Pad Thai that was up to my standard since then. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am proud to announce I have found my new favorite "Chicken Pad Thai" at Meetang. The Chicken Pad Thai has a good balance of sweet and sour favor from the brown sugar and tamarind in a dry but still moist texture. It is very hard to describe in words, but if you had enough Pad Thai in your life, you would know this is an awesome, top-class Pad Thai. (I had 3 big bites of the noodles (due to keto)... I did taste every single bite of my Pad Thai truly and carefully... I will surely order a Pad Thai only for myself at my next keto break...) Pricewise, Entrees are around $8-11, Mains would be around $15-17, and some special dishes may get up to $23.
This is a family-run restaurant that serves humble home-style Thai dishes. I am glad such a restaurant opened in my local...
Read moreIf youâre ever in Dandenong and craving Thai food, you could try Meetang Thai Kitchen - if youâre feeling brave, confused, or are conducting a scientific study on how sugar affects the human soul.
Letâs start with the free spring rolls - which, apparently, are only free if you pay by unicorn tears or some undisclosed currency. Paying by cash? Sorry, no rolls for you. Thatâs not a promotion; thatâs a bait and switch with a side of passive aggression.
Then came the Pad Thai - the menu said prawns which I asked for, but my taste buds (and the visible poultry) confirmed chicken. Maybe they thought I wouldnât notice? I guess prawns are just chickens of the sea now.
The Massaman beef was a tragic tale of what once might have been a cow, sliced into paper-thin strips of sadness and overcooked into submission. Chewy, lean, and flavorless - like jerky made by someone who hates joy.
The roti? Ah yes, the frozen frisbee of doom. Reheated, greasy, and with all the charm of an oil spill on a sidewalk. It was less âauthentic Thaiâ and more âforgotten in the back of the freezer since 2021.â
And the overall taste? Imagine a truckload of sugar crashing into a spice market, then everything being swept into a wok. If you like your curry with notes of caramel and your noodles with hints of candy floss, youâre in for a treat. For everyone else: bring insulin.
In short, Meetang Thai Kitchen left me full⌠of regret. And oil. And confusion. But hey if youâre into sweet meats, surprise poultry, and vanishing spring rolls, you might...
Read moreWhat a hearty meal my family enjoyed last night from this awesome new place! We ordered quite a few dishes for a home birthday dinner and were delighted with what we had. The quality is great! We've eaten at much more pricey Thai Restaurants in other suburbs and I can't say I noticed a difference in the standard of cooking. We all ate too much!
We have young kids and they were very happy with what we ordered too. Portion sizes are generous, and prices are affordable enough to make this a regular family treat, so we'll definitely be coming back for more.
Our favourites were the Roti, Pad Thai and the Thai Sweet Basil and Chilli Stir Fry. The adults really loved the Pad Thai. The one mistake we made with ordering was that we over ordered Chicken Satay, because the portions are quite big. Next time we'll get more Roti because the kids loved it and it disappeared very quickly.
I really like the fact that they give you the option to add special instructions when ordering. Good if you want to keep the spiciness levels down etc. I don't know if it will be possible, but I will ask for a bit less sweetness in the Thai Green Curry next time - but that's just my preference.
10 out of 10 for Meetang Thai. Highly...
