Was really disappointed at Middle child today. Have supported them multiple times throughout the pandemic whilst on a walk with friends around the Maribyrnong. Today a respiratory problem I have was playing up due to the higher then usual winds, I decided it was best for my health to leave the mask at home as I was struggling for breath at times. Went to order my coffees and in front of about 20 people gathering around the front of the shop not social distancing at all might I add, the bloke who I feel is the owner decided to ask me if I had a mask. I politely explained āno and I have an exemptionā. This very piece of information is all you have to give the police might I add, you lawfully donāt have to provide any proof or what the exemption might be to them but the owner of middle child took it upon himself to ask further questions in regards to what my exemption was as this wasnāt good enough for him, implying I was lying. I felt really uncomfortable disclosing my medical information in front of such a large crowd although I did so to save me further embarrassment and so I could get my friends and I coffee. Old mate went on to then tell me āthat he can now tell Iām not lyingā. Itās none of anyoneās business what my reason is not to wear a mask and if the owner is so good at reading peopleās minds maybe he should give up the cafe business and join the police himself, along with being a mind reader and could solve all there cases he could he is a skilled interigator. I hope he tells the 20 people waiting for coffees to leave the area tomorrow due to being so concerned about everyoneās health via lack of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCoffee here is good, good take away spot if walking along the Maribyrnong & I ordered one often To my surprise recently, I was charged $6 for a takeaway cap, at $5.5 on their price board it is already on the high end given most cafes are $5, but then was because it was "takeaway" it was $6, which is ridiculous as the place is very small with minimal seating that is thrives being on takeaway business. Unfortunately this will make me stop being a regular. Posting so others aware of the unexpected and unlisted "takeway surcharge"
In repsone to the owners reply" we charge $5.50 for dine in coffee, $6 for a takeaway"
You may not want to call that a "surcharge" but the rest of the world does, including the English dictionary. I usually get regular size It's also a requirement to display your prices. A large coffee is displayed on your board $5.50. When I was charged $6, I DID ask isn't it $5.50, and was told no because it's a takeaway. Look up the definition of a surcharge. It's not what u decide to ignore or deny. I usually get a Small size or an ice latte and have always been charged the price stated on the board. So I DID...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreClose to the river walking trail in Maribyrnong so makes for a convenient stop after your walk/run for a much needed caffeine fix however be warned other runners probably have the same idea you do and it's very likely there will be a wait to get your coffee.
There also appears to be some favouritism towards the cafes' regular customers. Regular customers seem to be allowed to cut the line e.g. when I got to the front of the line I was asked to wait a bit longer so that someone else who had already placed her own order and left the line can buy an extra coffee for her friend that had just arrived. Understandably the owner wants to keep his regulars happy but give us new guys a chance too, you might just gain...
