I never am one to write a bad review, however here goes:
I heard about this cafe, and wanted to try it out to today for brunch and to look at the space as prospect for my daughters first birthday party.
We arrived this morning at 11.48AM (12 minutes before they opened). Our two kids were sleeping in the car so my husband walked in to see if the cafe was open so that we could unload the kids and settle in. The gates were already open and the man was coming out from the cafe door to speak to my husband. All my husband asked was if the cafe was open and this was the man's response: "No! we are open at 12pm on the dot'' in the most annoyed tone and his face expression was so offensive one would have thought we rocked up looking like beggars for food (obviously not the case). Mind you, my husband is such a friendly (and highly educated) guy. To avoid further awkwardness, my husband further asked "do we need to make a reservation?". The man, again replied "for that amount of people it should be fine'. Once again, he spoke in a very annoyed (almost passive aggressive tone), no smiles.
To our shock, as my husband walks back to our car, I see that same man proceed to the front gate with the audacity to CLOSE and LOCK it in front of our eyes! (At 10 mins to open time!?) This is the perfect way to deter customers, an absolute slap in the face.
Would be safe to say, I was very annoyed at how my husband was spoken to, thus this review. We drove to a new cafe 5 mins away (Mr Robinson Cafe) and was greeted with the most friendly smiley staff and had wonderful food.
Anyway, rant it over. If you want hostile treatment, come to Mitcham Social.
POST in response to reply: I feel the reply received to my review showed no understanding of the actual issue in which I am gobsmacked to see. The issue here was not that we were upset of not being able to settle in 10 mins before open time. The issue here was the attitude and hostility received upon entry. No customer should be spoken to in...
Read moreBeer battered fish wasn't battered, which I could forgive if the crumb coating wasn't so salty making the fish inedible. Even trying to remove the crumb coating didn't work as the salt had permeated into it too. I effectively paid $35 for a small basket of chips. For $35 I expect better than this. There were 5 in our group and the only person who had anything good to say was about the calamari. The others had burgers and said they were not nice either because they were hard and very dry. No-one asked/cared if we enjoyed our meals which I suspect is because they knew the food was bad and they didn't want to know! Edit following response - last time I went there, I gave a 5⭐ but the food and experience this time was poor. I would think part of customer service would be to ask how the meal was, not rely on the customer to present meals back to the bar themselves. There was no mention when I ordered beer battered fish at the bar that the kitchen was sending out a completely different style of fish so presenting it back to the bar would have achieved nothing! Sept 2024 Since this review 2 months ago, I have heard this place has changed hands so hopefully it's better now. I don't plan to risk it though because I'm sure the cook...
Read moreImpressive interior located in a warehouse. Each section of the cafe is well set with self serve cutlery, live music on Friday and Sunday nights, a beautiful blue butterfly and bar.
Feel the different vibes in the day and night.
Margarita pizza is so impressive. Wood fire pizza with the the most crisp crust, thin base but enough to still hold its form . The cheese is stretchy and the sauce is perfect.
Beer battered chips are cooked fresh. Golden brown with a soft yet crisp taste. As you can see even the chips are happy :)
Pork belly cube so the delicious. The most crisp skin but tender enough that the pork breaks apart so easily. The sauce is well made.
This dish came last due to the time taken to make. We ordered the recommended sticky fried boneless chicken with fresh chilli and all I can say is wow. The batter is so thick and crispy. Each bite is so flavoured with a slight spicy kick to it.
The chocolatati is so well infused and powerful. The combination of the absolut vodka, chocolate liqueur and the baileys and chocolate fudge icecream add so much sweetness to the drink.
A big thankyou to Mitcham social for the invite. I love how you treat each person who dines there with the best...
