Mollie's is legendary and my partner and I adore it, so it is painful to write reviews such as this, but I think it can truly help a venue to receive constructive feedback.
We went to Babydrag the other night and were seated at the back at a table for two, which was perfect for us. Meal was amazing (as usual, shout out to the amazing cooks!).
We ordered drinks using the QR code on the table which promptly arrived with a beautiful smile from the lovely bartender (shout out to her too!). After dinner, the venue started to fill up significantly more (which is to be expected, its Babydrag!) Because of this, once Babydrag started, everyone had shoved us into the such corner where we couldn't move and were standing in front of us so that we couldn't even see the show!
This is not a problem of Mollie's, but one with the arrogance and thoughtlessness of patrons, something that we have dealt with in Melbourne quite a bit.
After my partner tapped a few people on the shoulder, they kindly shifted away, only to reappear again in the same place!
We shrugged, thought stuff it, we are here let's just enjoy what we can hear. We ordered another two drinks via QR (we couldn't get to the bar), and those drinks were paid for but never arrived at our table, hence why we waited for half time and then made our way out of Mollie's, with a dampening on our evening.
Again, I hate to put bad reviews for a venue I adore, and we work closely with Drag Queens in our line of work, so it meant a lot for us to attend and enjoy.
The whole drinks thing, I can excuse that and put it down to just being incredibly busy and maybe a bit understaffed at the time.
But the level of arrogance shown by some of the people there, that is why I noted the atmosphere as a 1 star, sadly.
Mollie's is a beautiful venue, one that we wish we could come to every week, but we live outside of the CBD so it's hard to make it in unless we stay a night in the city (which we did to attend this).
Of course we will be back, we're strong supporters of the lovely staff and performers at...
Read moreYes, the food service can be a tad slow but one has to remember they only have one chef to service customers and he works bloody hard to do what he does which is turn our good quality meals at VERY low prices.
As to the venue itself, let's start with the staff. They are truly wonderful...the warmest and most welcoming of any gay venue in Melbourne and all of them are gay which makes them very understanding towards their clientele. They are friendly and very caring. I just really find them so wonderful.
The activities on offer over the nights the venue is open are all fun. My favourite activity is "Drag Bingo." The presenters are an absolute scream. If you don't laugh at their antics and innuendo then you obviously don't have a pulse.
Parking can be problematic on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays but Wednesdays the parking is just fine, as it is on Sunday. Of course, if you are drinking taking an Uber is the easiest method of transport home and service to the front door of the club is rapid. Public transport getting to the venue is easy. If you get a train into the city via the City Loop, exit at Parliament station and get a number 86 tram at the tram stop there which will take you onto Gertrude Street which then intersects with Smith street...literally a one minute walk to the club. Go and have fun. It is straight friendly, all are welcome and it is a...
Read moreI have tried to contact Mollies privately about this issue via instagram dm's, however to no response i will post what i said on here: "Me and my partner went to Mollies tonight (10/2) and have mixed reviews. On one hand, the service was really nice and inviting. However, we were disappointed at the lack of transparency the bar had with its times. There was no clarification when the show started, nor when the restaurant closed, on the website or social media pages. Additionally, there were no times/warnings stated in the restaurant to when the shows were to start/ when the restaurant was to close. I know things don’t always go to exact times but it can be quite inaccessible to people such as myself with autism and my partner with ocd, where we want to be at the show to support the queens but can’t because of this lack of transparency we could not. Additionally, as people not local to the area, this was a bit of a let down. As said before, the staff were not to blame at all as they were lovely to be around, we are just dissatisfied with the management decisions. Mollies seems to have an inviting atmosphere, however due to this inaccessibility i...
