Things have changed.

The chicken burger at Mother's Instinct was my favourite chicken burger in Melbourne. It was tenderised, seasoned to perfection and served on a green bun. This is what I was expecting when I sat down to lunch today 30th Dec 2020 ... Unfortunately I got a completely different burger today. It was crumbed schnitzel, 2 thin layers with a tasty cheese melted on it and a vinegary thinly sliced lettuce, red onion and pickle. The salad part acted well to offset the richness of the brioche bun, poultry and cheese. But overall it was somewhat greasy and hard to eat with the finely chopped lettuce spilling out. The chips were well seasoned and crunchy but the quote unquote home made dipping sauce was obviously tomato sauce mixed with what tasted like sour cream. A rather lazy effort when someone is paying $22 for a burger and fries. It was not pleasant and the flavour diluted. As stated I paid $22, which is more expensive than Grilled down the street but nowhere near as perfected. I definitely didn't think it was worth the charge.

My wife had the smoked trout, which was a humble portion and again something was off. She thought that either the fish or the eggs were undercooked. Several hours later we both found our stomachs gurgling and somewhat upset.

Overall we were disappointed with our lunch and the food didn't seem to be as fresh as...

Mothers Instinct is a fantastic cafe on the corner of Glenhuntly and McCombie St in Elsternwick. Large and light-filled, it has a cheery ambience with its kitchen open to the eating areas. While this can mean some of the cooking smells pervade the eating area, that’s often welcome as the food is super. I had the smart way poached eggs and smashed avo on gluten free multi grain (pictured). It was delightful and healthy. Eggs poached to perfection - covered in seedy goodness. Food and coffee came quickly and the service was perfect. The coffee was fantastic - nutty, strong and creamy. The brekky special looked great too - brioche burger with chive scrambled eggs and house relish. Twosheds will return for lunch at some point, as the venue is licensed and the lunch menu looked...

I loved having breakfast at this beautiful ambianced with modern decor, plants and soft-rock music, and and well stocked with fresh fruit and vegetables, cafe style venue! I arrived and just wanted a brewed morning tea and ended up having their "The Smart Way," without poached eggs and nuts. They accomodated me so well and the multigrain toast with smashed avocado was served devinely and tasted great! I will certainly come back and next time try their almond coffee range and other coffees with their lunch plate "Vegan Bowl," and "Chef's Gnocchi! A...

Checked this out on New Year’s Day as I knew our preferred Elsternwick cafes would be insanely busy and we were quite disappointed. Incredibly slow service, took 20 minutes after I ordered to be told it wasn’t available and a further 20 minutes before my second choice showed up. Lucky for me I fared best of the four of us with my porridge as some of the other dishes looked very unimpressive and given a 15% public holiday surcharge it was an expensive endeavour in leaving most of the food on the plates. Definitely won’t be going back
