Being a newly opened local joint, we decided to give it a try for our regular Friday take out dinner.
Things got off to a rough start when at 5.30pm, it took 5 mins to explain to the girl over the phone the 3 items we wanted ordered as she repeated items never mentioned and wanted to check the menu number. We put that down to new starter teething issues.
When going over to pick up at 6pm, we could see the issues in staffing, 1 girl for front of house, taking orders and greeting customers, 4 in back of house, cooking, prepping and packing food - clearly the staffing ratio hasn't been ironed out yet and everyone was a bit flustered and it wasn't peak hour yet.
Food wise, we didn't get all we ordered, we ordered for 2 serves of quail which was listed in the printed order paper, but only received one (thankfully was charged correctly for the lesser serve), the main of Cantonese steak was more filler vegetables than meat and the serving size was more a entree than main for its price of $23. The banh xeo was decently sized and well presented with a good amount of filling, ignoring the fact that the side salad was more appropriate for pho than for banh xeo.
Flavour wise, banh xeo was the pick of the bunch being full of fresh ingredients although slightly bland in flavour. Likewise, the quail was quite bland and slightly dry, the chunks of steak way too sweet but appreciated they didn't soak it in baking soda like many Chinese restaurants do.
Teething issues aside, I think this place is trying to do too many things at the one time. Improve front of house and limit the menu items so they can come out faster. Focus on taste and quality and it will thrive. Otherwise it will flounder as there is a much better option...
Read moreLooking for a quick Chinese meal, head to Mr Chu’s! Dine in experience was great, we had lovely wait staff look after us!
Enjoyed entrees of curry puffs (2), prawn spring rolls (2) and pork char sui. The curry puffs are flaky, flavour bombs and of a good size, the prawn spring rolls are a tad thin but nice and the char sui is delicious but could be more meat on the plate.
Main course we shared Sichuan beef and veggies, honey pepper beef steak, salted egg fried chicken ribs (which are huge! ) and steamed rice. We ordered a large steam rice but found it to be very small for a table of three. Rice is very cheap and could be more generous in portion. The honey pepper steak was outstanding…. Full of flavour and a good balance of meat to veggie ratio.
Our server was courteous, helpful and efficient.
We enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back for more! Thank...
Read moreMr Chu's Kitchen recently opened where the Old Rasa Chinta Restaurant was. I did not realise until I actually sat down and looked at the menu. From the get go I was already on the defensive, because "who dared to replace Rasa".
I ordered the Char Kway Trow, ready to complain, but dear slap me sideways was I wrong! The food was amazingly good and they give you a good quantity! They actually want to fill you up with food!
They actually use proper ingredients, like Prawns the size of a thumb instead of the Finger nail size you usually find elsewhere. You can see they pride themselves in their food first and foremost. They want you to enjoy your food and be full!
I highly recommend you visit them! They have a wide variety of dishes that will suit...
