My Little Bento is an authentic Japanese cafe located just on Margaret St opposite Moonee Ponds Station. They offer a menu featuring ramen, curry, sashimi, don and more along with a blackboard full of rotating specials. ๐ฅข
They are licensed and have a selection of Japanese sakes, beers and a small cocktail menu which wonโt break the bank - loved the Yuzu G&T! We had heard great things about the Sashimi here and can confirm it is a must order. So fresh and presented beautifully. ๐คฉ
The Chicken Karaage was crisp and moist inside and the Chicken Prawn Gyoza in chilli oil was delicious, both generous in portion. The Salmon Teri-Mayo Don had lots of salmon! The Ramen was ok, a bit porky for my personal taste, the Char Siu was fattier than Iโve had before (the lean pieces were fantastic) and the noodles were too soft. ๐
Open for dinners Tuesday to Saturday but also lunch Friday and Saturday! Although the restaurant does look like an unassuming day-time cafe, the dishes are of high standard. Would return for snacks and a cocktail!...
ย ย ย Read moreI had been there last year with my partner and really enjoyed everything about that place so I kept the card from the restaurant and I finally had a chance to go back there with a friend in June and it was as great as I remembered it! Very lovely little Japanese restaurant with authentic food and customer service. Having lived in Japan for a while I'm always on the lookout for an authentic Japanese experience in Melbourne and My little Bento definitely provides it. We had sushi to share, I had a Katsu curry and my friend had a special curry Udon with prawns and we were not disappointed at all. So yum! The waitress is really accommodating, friendly and efficient. There's a lot of small details that are just "kawaii " too, great drinks ... just in love! There's also a nice outdoors space that I'd love to try when it gets warmer. I'll definitely be back! If you love Japanese food and culture like I do, I definitely recommend you...
ย ย ย Read moreThe staff was lovely and very attentive. Despite lovely presentation of food and decent and quick service the portions are quite stingy and small. It costed $24.50 for a chicken bento and the serving of karage was about a small handful served in a small bowl. The veggie servings were a part of the bento and would be an estimate of a table spoon for each. The bowl of rice and the miso soup was the most generous serve. I ordered also a curry kastudon and the chicken serving was again tiny, about 5 thin crumbed strips. All the rice dishes are mostly generous and flavourful with the rice but the meat portions are tiny. I visited a few years ago and the servings were much more generous. inflation sucks bro. for 3 dishes and 2 small drinks it costed 91 bucks. I could purchase 3 dishes at another asian restaurant and the portions would be more generous for half the price....
