Nando's Tooronga Village — Restaurant in Melbourne

Absolutely awful service if I could give it a zero I would, as I can see from previous reviews I was met with the same awful girl with terrible customer service. I went to the counter to ask a question, order something extra and the other girl just looked at me and told me to wait and go to the rude girl… who in front of my face said ‘I’ll deal with her’… I didn’t bother to order more she treated me with such disrespect.

They had no wings I was okay with that I said things happen as I work in hospitality too. I just asked if there was something of the same value even offered to pay extra. The girl at the counter was so rude saying we can just refund you, you can leave, that was before I even sat down. When we received the chicken ribs they were tiny I know they’re supposed to be charred however these were burnt and had hardly any meat. The corn and garlic bread were good. The chef was grateful I didn’t worry too much about them not having wings. The manager when I gave him feed back on the girl was shocked she spoke to me like that. Manager and chef nice… girl at the counter avoid at all costs and don’t even bother asking questions to her.

When I gave feedback to the girl she said it’s not her job, when I said I’m a chef I work in the same industry I was met with this… and I quote:

‘It doesn’t seem like you are you’re extremely rude’.

The table next to me encouraged to complain.

Will never return and will tell others not to bother going there too.

*Edit to add.. I apologise to customers there and the manager for raising my voice to the server. When you work so hard as a solo parent for your qualifications, to make money for a roof over your head and to make a business .. to be met by that type of customer service and spoken to like that by a young entitled employee who thinks that’s fine to speak like that. I WILL NEVER EAT AT NANDOS AGAIN AFTER DINING AT THIS RESTAURANT.

The manager is an absolute IDIOT! We came here with 3 people and the meal served was completely innedible. Firstly they stuffed up the salad we ordered and missed two key ingredients, the qinou and goats cheese. We complained and rather than making the salad again, just bought the ingredients out in a bowl.Then we noticed that the Avocado in the salad was hard and unripe, and the SKIN HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED. In addition the chicken wings we ordered were BURNT. At this point we called the manager over and he said that we could come back next time for a free meal. He asked for me to wrote my name and number on a piece of paper.

He said that a lot of customers had been complaining about the unripe avo, meaning they KNEW about the problem but were still serving avocado. How STUPID CAN YOU GET!!!

So we came back a couple weeks later, the same 3 people. We spoke to the receptionist who then spent 15 minutes looking through a register for the note.

After not being able to find it she called the manager who told her that he had lost the note but remembered us but we were only entitled to either a burger or a wrap, NOT the free meal for 3 people he had promised.

Unhappy with this situation, i spoke to the manager on the phone explaining that we all remember what he said, and came into the restaurant expecting each to have a free meal to the value of what we had spent previously. (Which was only $23).

Instead of being a smart manager and making good on his promise he refused to help!

Update: Nov 2023 Mediocre experience except for the lovely young lady who served us with a smile and very helpful. Missed the Portugese feel and this Nandos had disconnected from the story on the wall. Instead we had Bollywood music playing like at an Indian restaurant (absolutely love indian food) and the cooks carrying on loudly in the kitchen. The Parlla was made well but the chicken was not fresh. Overall a big let down and an opportunity to "pull up your socks".

Previous Review Absolutely the best grilled chicken around. They manage to keep the taste and quality very consistent. Nandos is an experience - from the decor, to the cutlery and the music!!! Its the whole experience thats put together so well. Great for a lengthy family meal or a quick lunch out of the office. Nandos at Tooronga is always busy, the staff are friendly and the access is convenient. Plenty of free underground parking keeps the car in the shade. A bit pricey and can be dissuading sometimes but...
