Oakleigh Fish & Chippery — Restaurant in Melbourne

I got the single pack for $20 and my friend got the chicken burger pack for around $16.

The portions here were massive, and very generous with the chips. The table had salt, pepper and vinegar which you can douse your food in how you like it. The vinegar gave the chips a nice acidity and it has a good bite, being crispy on the outside while really soft in the middle.

The single pack came with gummy flake fish, dim sim, and fried potato. I felt the potato wasn’t all that great, it just tasted like fried potatoes without much flavour. The dimsim was really good though. The filling had a nice meaty taste but it’s not overpowering.

The fish itself was decent. The batter was crispy but i’d like it if it was seasoned more. But the fish was huge as well. I got a couple of bites of the chicken burger and it’s really good. The cabbage was really refreshing and the chicken, while a bit dry, was pretty good too.

Ordered for Good Friday, always busy of course so put our order through at 1:05 for pick up at 6 pm. It is now 8:15 pm still waiting. Asked 4 times during this period where our order was no response other than security guard taking the order Name and taking it to the front desk. Finally allowed in the store to ask only to be told they had only JUST printed out our order. Yes that rights the order placed at 1:05 pm, printed at 8:15 pm. People ordering after us coming and going and now they cannot complete our order because they have run out of certain items. We have been coming to this fish and chip shop for 3 years, many times have we used their online ordering and never had this issue including Good Friday last year. Not good enough! No offer of discount or refund for any missing items just will cook what they can of our order now, gee thanks. Definitely worth the now 2 1/2 hour wait, NOT! I was quite happy with the service, it was very busy and they took orders and prepared orders efficiently. Not too much of a wait. I wish they took Credit Card / EFTPOS but it's Cash Only. The Fish was great. The chips were alright (nothing special). The Steak burger was ordinary but I suppose that's what you get for ordering meat from a Fish and Chip shop. I really love how it's all prepared in front of you so you can see exactly what goes into it. I would go there again.

edit: 21/1/22 I forgot about my previous review from 4 years ago. They take card now but take a surcharge which they don't disclose upfront, there is no signs. The food I forgot was just as bad as before (Bland Chips and Burger) but the Mrs went here for the Fish which I don't eat so I had to order something.
