Read moreHaven't visited in decades and saw that reviews for Olinda Cafe's scones were good, so ascended 'The Hills' as former locals to try here anew. Yes, the scones are worth the hype! 5 stars!
The wait between ordering and paying at the counter until the scones arrived seemed lengthy... maybe 20 mins or longer. Suggestion: a little pre-delivery blurb: 'our scones are cooked fresh for you, hence, worth the wait' could ease the customer pain of 'why the excessive wait just for scones?' But, they finally arrived, piping hot, crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, which was VERY compensatory. Well done! 5 star scones indeed!
Our young waitress was sweet and helpful but should roll with 'customer is right' ethos when we offered to purchase more jam and cream from the getgo. The topping portions were generous - but needed to be even MORE so to truly complement the skyscraper-esque scones! We had to hail another waitress well before our original came back to check on our needs. If she had have acceded to our initial request we would have given 5 stars across the board.
Another 3 to 3.5 stars was sitting inside the busily-patronized cafe - it lacked ventilation, assaulting our senses with overwhelmingly strong fried food smells from our cheek-to-jowel fellow patrons. Some open doors, windows or fans may help.
Coffee - beans not too fresh and was on the weak side but we did come for the scones... and definitely would return visit for those! Also the waitresses might not be 'fine dining' trained but they are friendly, smiling, helpful and young enough to cut slack for.
Also Men's Toilet had no soap.
Very nice,...
Read moreStopped in here for lunch, the problems started as we walked in. The sign said "wait to be seated" we were told by staff to grab menus from the counter and get a table. Waited 15 minutes for the busy staff to take our order, that was fine. Our coffees and juices took 20 minutes to come out these were all good. (cafe was not all that busy) noticed our table had no number on it. As we sat waiting for an hour for our food to come out we started noticing how run down the place was. Patches on the ceiling unpainted the door to the kitchen had quite a bit of damage, pictures on the walls were damaged too, apparently the ladies Sanitary bin was "over flowing". The elderly lady with a walker struggled to get to the toilet due to how tight the seating was. I was actually about to pay for our drinks and leave as a confused waitress came out with three plates of food and had no idea who it was for..... We noticed it could have been ours so we asked if it was and she had no idea who's food it was, she had to ask before giving us our order. Cutlery came after our food came to the table. All the kids deep fried food was ok the scrambled eggs on toast was sitting in a puddle. The potatoes in jackets were near cold. Pretty disappointed to be honest. Staff seemed unhappy and a little lost the manager didn't seem to have much control as he was to busy running around (bumped into one of the wait staff carrying our coffees). Based on our experience today we should have gone to The Pie in The Sky. If you want a coffee and scone or cake you should be fine,...
