Update “They’re back baby!”
Took a friend to have pho here today. Both he and I had loved Pho Kim Long for many years, but recently the taste had not been the same.
From the first spoonful, we both looked at each other and smiled. The same taste was back!
I don’t know whether having a chat with one of the waitresses who said she’d pass on the feedback (refer below) was the difference, but it is so good to know the King of Pho is back in St Albans.
I’ve never updated a review before, but credit where credit is due… this IS once again the place for pho in the West.
Thank you to the team at Pho Kim Long from a very relieved customer.
(Old review) Used to be ‘the place’ for Pho in St. Albans, however sadly this will be my last visit. Pho Kim Long seems to have new owners, with the recipe for the tastiest pho in the west going out with the previous owners. This change seems to affected other items on the menu and the condiments seem not to be the ‘real deal’ either. This place used to rival Pho Huang Vuong Saigon in Springvale, however times change, and so has ‘here’. Thank you to the previous chefs from Pho Kim Long, you were amazing. The new staff have big shoes to fill and at the moment are not even...
Read moreUpdate: Same menu, new pricing. Ordered the Special Beef Noodle Soup again. This time, the dish had more toppings than the last visit and no fatty brisket pieces. The meats were still very thinly sliced. Broth is still good.
Now there is a small container of pickled onions at each table, rather than having to ask for it previously.
Last Visit: Long way to travel for Pho. We were told that this was the bees knees of Pho.
Ordered 2x Special Beef Noodle Soup(Pho). Yes, the broth is good, it has good “body” and depth of flavour - the pho is good but the pho we have had in Richmond is good enough without the distance plus also like 15-20% more in quantity and quality is good enough. Admittedly - the broth here did have more “body”.
The raw beef, beef balls, tripe, tendon, brisket were sliced thinly versus chunks and thickly sliced at other places. Might look like a lot - described as generous by other reviewers but in fact, the overall dish is about 15-20% less in quantity with toppings and noodles - same price. Also, the brisket was a little fatty.
Service was friendly and quick. If you like pickled onions with your Pho - you’ll have to ask for it. Not offered...
Read moreThis is by far the best Pho place in all of Melbourne Metro. Even better than Richmond. I last came here almost 9 years ago and they are still just as good and the serving size is still the same. The only difference is that back then a medium bowl cost $11 and today it costs $15. That's inflation for you, but still a pretty good price for what you get. I love this place because it seems like only people that know of it's existence will come inside as it sometimes looks closed and it's small. I hate the big places that are packed with people as it's quite intimidating and too many people around bothers me. This place is cozy and comfortable with only a handful of people inside. Still busy but bearable and you don't feel rushed and don't feel like you're being watched. And the menu is really simple and small. I love how they don't have too many things to choose from because that means that they focus on making a few dishes great. If there are too many items then it's hard to make everything good. Quality over quantity is what...
