Piccolina Gelateria — Restaurant in Melbourne

Went into the store last night, I’m lactose intolerant and I kindly asked the staff wether their sorbets contained dairy and I was assured that they didn’t, perfect I think to myself. As I was eating it i realised that it tasted exactly like ice cream and not sorbet, I went to the staff and double checked with them, they again assured me that none of the flavours I ordered contained any dairy. Safe to say the rest of my night was ruined having to deal with the aftermath of having lactose as someone who is lactose intolerant. Really disappointed especially given how important accurate allergen advice is, I’d hate to be someone who was allergic to nuts being told twice there was no nuts only to discover through an allergic reaction that...

Messina was closed so I decided to give this place a chance. The gelato was ok, flavours are very subtle which isn't necessarily a bad thing, although it isn't my preference. The very terrible part was the service, it was my first time there so I wanted to have a taste before deciding which flavour to get, the lady serving said they don't do that, I was surprise but was ok with that, then I tried to ask a bit more about the difference between the flavours and which one was peoples favorite... I was shocked with a gesture of not saying a word and giving an "I dont know" type of face but in a very rude way, very dissapointing, I wanted to walk away but decided to get it anyway and I am glad I did because I know I won't...

I've been here a few times now and have always had good gelato. They offer the standard array of gelato flavours you'd expect to get but probably not as imaginative as some of the other places I've been to in Melbourne.

Compared to other gelateria's I've been to, it is rather expensive! I think it's close to $7 for a single scoop in a cone-- you don't even pay that much on Lygon Street! I guess it's 'sometimes food', but if you were shouting a few friends or had kids, it'd be an expensive outing!
