This is by far the best Escape Room Business in Melbourne. The level of detail and creativity in each room is phenomenal. Did all 4 rooms in one week, as we were only visiting Melbourne. Heres some detail on each room. Even the waiting room, is uniquely decorated and has a lot of effort put into it.
The Lost Tomb- This is a very fun room, it requires teamwork, communication, a lot of movement and co-operation. Although my least favourite of the 4, this room is ideal for beginners and children. It is also the first room i've seen with 6 tonnes of sand in it. We did play the room at an awkward stage where it was still being renovated, but we still enjoyed the puzzles and concepts of the room, it probably just didn't flow as well as it should of.
The Medieval Quest - This is a must do room for escape room enthuasists. The flow of the puzzles in this room is faultless. Definitely the most interactive of the 4 rooms and definitely the biggest. This room is also ideal for beginners and advanced players as it has a lot of puzzles, without any of them being overly difficult. This is my personal favourite of the 4.
The Last Stand- This room is more difficult then the first 2, but has a very easing start, to help you get in the mood for solving puzzles. It later on becomes less linear and a lot more challenging. However the room isn't riduclously difficult. Groups that have done at least the first 2 rooms, shouldn't find this room majorly difficult. There is also a lot of interative and hands on elements to deal with.
The Grimm Finale- This room is creativity at its finest. Without giving too much away, I can say that a lot of people will enjoy the surprises and twists this room has to offer. Definitely the most unique escape room experience I have had after completing 70+ rooms across Australia. This room also ties the whole storyline and aspects of the other 3 rooms together perfectly. Theres also a nice playful element towards the end of the experience that a lot of people will enjoy. A must do for escape room enthuasists!
Overall, all the rooms at the Mystery Rooms are faultless in their non-linear designs, and explore all types of escape room concepts. Each room actually feels like your on an adventure and trying to achieve a mission The additions of the bonus puzzles in each room is also something we really enjoyed.
The staff are also really welcoming and play a special part of each experince. After completeing each room, you also recieve a completmentary drink. I definitely reccommend you give all 4 rooms a go here,...
Read moreWe did the Lost Tomb room and were excited to try it out given the amount of positive reviews. Unfortunately the experience was not what we had expected.
To begin, the staff explaining were less than enthusiastic and didn't put much effort into explaining the room. We weren't given any warning about the sand in the room which might sound like an authentic addition to the set but it ended up going everywhere when we were required to crawl through it and something that could be an issue with people with mobility issues due to uneven surfaces.
The puzzles themselves weren't very intuitive and quite a few of them were quite repetitive. Figure out this clue, unlock this lock. Repeat. Repeat. Nothing that made us excited to try the next puzzle. There was lots of individual puzzles that didn't link and some which required quite large logic leaps to even know that the clues were for the right puzzles. We've done a lot of escape rooms and all these puzzles felt half-hearted.
The staff hadn't reset the room properly so when we asked for a hint it turned out something wasn't in the right spot. Additionally for one of the puzzles we were certain we had solved it and and running around trying to see if we missed anything. After struggling for a while we asked for a hint and it turned out the technology of the puzzle had failed and we realised we could've escaped earlier meaning they didn't monitor the room to see if things were going wrong.
I feel like the staff training could be better and the progression of the puzzles needs to be more thought out to be a more logical narrative...
Read moreMeh? We did the haunted house room. Aside from a horrible experience my friend had attempting to book the room (she booked online but it never went through, tried to ring the venue 10 times and emailed no answer. Finally went in and was told "yeah that happens" by the staff) but anyway from what I experienced the rest was no better.
The staff just didn't seem to care, Tom our guide was nice and all but really didn't give much to the room, story or anything really. No one was checking on us so we spent ages on things we shouldn't of, a lot of the puzzles weren't intuitive so you had no idea of what to start or where to go next. Also seemed like a lot was broken, there were two clear puzzles in the 2nd room that said not in use. We also barely got what was happening in the story, none of it really made much sense. Lastly pretty sure the room wasn't set up correctly, there was a full jigsaw puzzle that was completed and it seemed like someone just didn't mix it up and a whiteboard that was just left blank.
The real nail in the proverbial coffin was when we asked about what else was meant to happen in the room since we completed it. And the staff said oh normally one of us pops up in the mirror but no one [could be bothered] to do it. No other lights or sooks, very anti-climactic
The whole place just seems a bit tried, and staff that lost...
