I'm so disappointed. Proud Peacock used to be one of my favourite places to eat or get takeaway, but around Covid time they changed their chef or management, and it's gone downhill. I remember getting takeaway around the time covid hit, around 2020, and being a bit disappointed as their recipes had clearly changed and the food was worse. But, it was still quite good (just not as good as before).
But since my experience on Friday night, I am extremely put out.
We have to wait 1.5 hours for our takeaway order (which said it would be ready in an hour). Everyone's orders were like this.
I observed the service as I waited, and though they were trying, was terrible. Not enough people, taking too many orders that they don't have the capacity for.
The consistently give out incorrect orders. In that 1.5 hours only one other take away order came out. And it was incorrect. The person checked it, and they corrected it on the spot. Also while I was waiting someone else returned to the store from another time - perhaps picking up and taking the order home already - to tell them they had forgotten a meal. When ours came out, it was also incorrect. Thankfully we checked it on the spot.
Somehow, when our food came out, it wasn't hot or fresh. It was luke warm. Perhaps it had been sitting there and they didn't have enough people to get it out to us? I don't know.
What really tipped me over the edge was that I ordered the vegetarian version of a dish, and they gave me the meat one, which I only noticed AFTER I started eating. Thanks. As you can imagine I did NOT feel well after that.
So basically, I am extremely disappointed that our favourite place has gone downhill since new management or chef.
They take an extremely long amount of time. The food is no longer good, hot or fresh. And most of all I can't trust them now - if you have dietary requirements and you order from them, CHECK IT. Otherwise you may feel very sick like me.
I understand mistakes happen, but when in 1.5 hours at least 3 mistakes happen, that's a pattern.
Please improve. Bring back the old team. Or tell me where they've gone so I can go...

In terms of logistics, parking was convenient, which is always a plus. That said, the dining space can feel a bit cramped, especially if you're part of a larger group. I would highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time, particularly for dinner, as the restaurant tends to get quite busy and can fill up quickly. All in all, I would highly recommend this place for its wonderful food and overall experience! and well-prepared.

Read moreThe Proud Peacock is a restaurant gem tucked away in Mount Waverley that more people should know about and must experience!
They serve an authentic style Vietnamese cuisine that to me it filled your senses and taste buds of being “home-cooked” with its delicious freshness, luscious flavours, and very generous servings.
I accompanied a friend for dinner on a Friday evening - 7:30ish, which is peak dining time. It was full and we had to wait around 30 minutes for a table, but I did not mind as I told my friend I am still very full and not hungry from lunch. Once we sat down and I started to read through the menu, my appetite returned. I ordered Beef Pho with Tripes, my friend ordered Bun Bo Hue, and to share we also ordered Com Tam Thit Nuong and Prawn Spring Rolls. All are accompanied by Iced Tea.
All I can say, no matter how full I felt walking into that restaurant; I absolutely enjoyed the food we ordered and did not regret feeling bloated afterwards! I was satisfied. I was happy. I was in Vietnamese Heaven! If you are craving Vietnamese Food or cannot decide what to have for dinner, I would highly recommend you check out The Proud Peacock at Mount Waverley!
Just a reminder to come early or be prepared to wait for a table, but I guarantee you will not be disappointed with the wait! The staff are very welcoming, very friendly, and turn around the tables very quick! Five Silver Spoons out of Five.
