Party of 5, 4 of whom were traditional Chinese - Utter rubbish food and ripoff!
It's been a very long time since I've been to a restaurant I believe to be as bad as this. What's more, all of my Chinese colleagues not only agreed, but were in total disgust not only due to the quality of food, but the ridiculous pricing.
Of the 5 in attendance, three are aged over 80 and are not big eaters, I wasn't overly hungry either but my wife was. So on the advice of the restaurant owner, my Chinese friends ordered 1 x dish of supposedly organically fed chicken, 1 x dish of garlic and spinach and 1 x dish of roast pork/duck. We had a small amount of steamed rice and 3 x beers.
The first to arrive was the - believe it or not - little pile of spinach with garlic - for the princely sum of $24.90. It was fine. No complaints. Thing is, because my friends ordered from the owner, not from the menu, we didn't know the cost.
Next was the roast pork and duck, which was okay, most accepting that it was edible, but that it should have been given the price of $29.90
Finally we received what had to be the most disgusting chicken I've ever laid my eyes on. Fatty, disgusting cuts that even my super traditional Chinese friends couldn't believe had been dished up. It was unadulterated rubbish. What's more, the supposed organically fed chicken was chewy and full of smashed bones etc. Unbelievable. And this cost $39.90! We left more than half and when asked if we would like to take it away, nobody was interested in the slightest.
Of course we can't forget the four (4) small, and I mean small, bowls of rice for a total of $15!
And the beer? Amazingly, a little bottle of Tsingtao costs $8.50. Seriously. As Tsingtao is a cheap beer, the 'norm' of around $6.50 to $7.00 would have been appropriate.
What has to be described (as a whole) the worst meal I have had in a very long time (including all I have had in Thailand, many many areas of China, Cambodia, Singapore etc), cost a total of $134.70. It was rubbish, the chicken a disgrace, and $25 for a blob of garlic spinach is nothing more than a joke.
Look, I could go on, as could my friends, however the restaurant can rest assured that none of us, or our many Chinese friends will want to go to the Golden Ocean restaurant anytime...
Read moreWhat a fantastic experience. The cuisine was extremely authentic, and the service was incredibly friendly. It felt like I was eating at home. The sweet corn chicken soup was wonderful. The specialities eggplant and chilli beef were so flavorful that you could eat it all by themselves. The fried rice was tasty, with plenty of meat. We bought the chilli oil and that was my highlight. It goes well with everything. Customer service: 10/10. A must visit if you enjoy Chinese food and love...

I feel like this place may be getting pushed into the shadow of the proud peacock, which is only several meters away and itself is also a fantastic place to eat. However, this place is equally generous with food, tastes fantastic, prices are very reasonable and staff extremely friendly. also the best chilli oil...
