Publique Bakery — Restaurant in Melbourne

These guys need to train their staff on some customer service 101 etiquette. Ordered some almond crossaint and Portuguese egg tarts one early Friday afternoon when there was no line or crowd at all. The service I received from the bored girl was nothing short of downright rudeness, slapping my orders on the bench, announcing and punching the total into the eptpos machine and as soon as she heard the payment beep going through, she just abruptedly turned around and walked off from me, going back inside the baking area and continued to look bored. There were 4 of staff in total in the store at the time and there was nothing else for her to do other than serve customers which she clearly did not want to do. I was dumbfounded that people treat others like that, let alone their customers!

Taste wise, the portugese tarts were well flavoured with the right balance of sweetness and creaminess for the custard the pastry was flaky and light. The almond crossaints were a disappointment and lack bite or flakiness to the pastry, there were no distinct layers and it was rather bland. I tried heating it up in the air fryer at home to crisp things up which slightly improved the texture but sadly not the taste.

Won't be back that's for sure and really don't understand the hype given the...

Pastry is good quality HOWEVER, why would you flatten a croissant.. taking away the flaky, fluffy texture we all know and love. The almond croissant is really one of the worst I have had due to the texture. Favour is decent but it is flat and becomes more like a dough rather than a pastry.

Ham and cheese is delicious and is forgivable for being flattened, but still why would you flatten it..

Highlight for me is the cheese sticks. I drive out of my way to deal with the hecticness of the markets and line up to buy them, they are delicious and a huge stand out.. YUM!

Tried the raspberry tart/ pastry today.. it was so dry and ‘bready’ didn’t have the flaky texture we know a good dessert pastry to have.

Prices are not offensive, seems reasonable.

I just couldn’t risk wasting money on a sweet pastry here. After being spoilt by Village Bakery and their sweet pastries (much more on the expensive side), I think I would be too hard to please with something in the mid range.

Most of bread was sold out 1pm Saturday. Ordered 2 shots long black in small takeaway without lid. Usual fast paced service🤐😁 ☆4.8 Full strength, rich with beautiful crema. Slightly hot & nice fresh coffee beans👍

Plenty of almond chocolate croissant, the popular plain & chocolate croissant were almost gone.

Almond chocolate has rich creamy taste and crispy almond and beautiful moist texture ☆5😍

Chocolate croissant looked fluffy but pastry was real thick, chewy and flavourful roasted rich butter. It was very filling and excellent for lunch 😋 or half piece for breakfast with long black coffee☕️ ☆4.5

Publique coffee by Dukes coffee has a little more acidity and mild mid strength. I added 1/4 of my favourite Dark Horse Espresso blend which became my perfect special blend to my best liking...
