Sakura Sushi — Restaurant in Melbourne

Whilst the sushi is adequate, the fact that the owners blatantly have no regard for Australian consumer law is quite concerning. I have tried to help this small business, as a small business operator myself, by explaining the new ACCC anti excessive credit card surcharge laws.

These changes mean that businesses can only charge 1-1.5% surcharge for Visa/MasterCard and 3% for American Express.

Like a lot of people, I don’t carry a lot of cash and to have to pay 10% credit card surcharge (50c) on two pieces of sushi is just ridiculous.

I politely tried many times to explain the changes however all that was returned were unwelcome looks from the owner. I even had a 10c coin thrown in front of me as the owner was trying to bargain down the surcharge.

It’s not an issue of money for me, it’s more the principle. Operating a small business is not easy, but we have laws to provide a level playing field and to give a good customer experience.

Unfortunately I will not go back to this sushi bar due to the systematic disregard for Australian Consumer...

The people serving in the restaurant seem friendly. However, this is by far the worst Japanese food I've eaten. It's insulting that they have clearly made no effort to learn what Japanese food is. It is very Chinese. The udon wasn't udon but a Chinese noodle, the handrolls had lettuce in them, the softshell crab wasn't cooked anywhere near enough. I'm actually concerned right now that I'll get sick. And to top it all off, they're very expensive - charging over $4.00 for a handroll! I wish so much that I could go back in time and make the decision to have gone elsewhere. For those customers who gave this restaurant five stars - you were either being paid for the review or you haven't a clue of what Japanese food is supposed to be. I regret so much that I listened to you. I really don't know what planet you people...

Really nice sushi as far as freshness & quality ingredients go, they made the hand rolls to order & fairly quickly. However as someone else mentioned, there's no seasoning of the rice. The hand rolls & inari lacks the sweet stickiness i usually get from other outlets. Also the girl was quite rude, you turn up & she's like 'yes?!'...she did the same to the lady customer who came in after me, like would it kill you to say 'yes please?' or 'hi what would you like'?' instead of treating the customer like an inconvenience??
