Stokers Fine Pancakes — Restaurant in Melbourne

We had to wait over an hour after ordering because (I kid you not) they ran out of pancake batter at 10am on a Saturday. They didn’t let us know and we were missing a few things such as a side of bacon and no sugar with my lemon and sugar pancakes when we finally did get out food, with one of us not getting her pancakes until 10 minutes after the rest of us. The communication was abysmal, they should have told us, and the wait was just too long for anything but 1 star.

They did offer us comp’d coffee but messed up the orders of them too- but I would have rather have been told than have a drink I don’t drink for free.

Edit: I see the restaurant has replied below. It’s totally up to you if you want to eat here, my review of just a reflection of my experience. The fact is nothing I said in my review was inaccurate or false. We were not told there would be a wait and then after ordering and waiting 45 mins my partner got up to ask what the wait was and we were told they ran out of pancake mix. We received our food over the course of the next 15-25mins making the total wait 1hr+ from ordering. The rest of the details the restaurant agrees were true but just elaborated on more, so I won’t go down that petty...

Absolutely ridiculous to wait 45mins for 2 crepes and a coffee. No apology, did not tell us it will be a longer wait, nothing. I attempted to order at the counter, was told please just do it with the QR code. And with that, I have an email copy of the order and hence I know it was an exact 45minutes wait.

After 45minutes and the crepes arrived, I raised the complain of the long wait and staff said in a very “matter-of-fact” manner : “ well, tomorrow is our last day and everyone wants to come in and we only have one chef” Is that really an excuse? And as customers are we suppose to accept that as a fact or even know that before we ordered? And still, not even a “sorry for the long wait”

Note: I was not told that it was reservation only or even that it was going to be a long wait. I merely ask if I could seat at a particular table and the staff said that I could if the patrons have left. I walked in at 7pm and was definitely not even spoken to by the staff for more than 1 sentence. Perhaps you should check your fact with your staff before accusing me of being unreasonable. I ordered the spiced apple pancakes which was a fabulous choice as they are drizzled with salted caramel, delicious.

Do not go here without getting the large serving of the notable crispy crunchy pancake chips. It sounds random but they are seriously sensational especially with the salty creamy vegemite dipping sauce. They are also open late on the weekends so you can pick some up takeaway on the way home replacing the maccas run (or is that just me).

Original review Having been here before and raved about the pancake chips with Vegemite dipping sauce ever since I insisted my team meet there for breakfast one morning before heading to work.
