âMy recent visit to the Golden Gate Hotel in South Melbourne was nothing short of spectacular, and I feel compelled to share my experience. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was enveloped in an atmosphere that was both vibrant and welcoming. This isn't just a pub; it's a meticulously crafted establishment that understands the art of hospitality. âThe layout of the Golden Gate is a masterclass in design. The space is intelligently partitioned, offering a variety of settings to suit any mood. Whether you're looking for a lively spot to catch up with friends, a cozy nook for a more intimate conversation, or a spacious outdoor area to enjoy a sunny afternoon, the Golden Gate has it all. The flow between the different areas is seamless, creating a sense of openness while still maintaining distinct ambiences. âAnd then, there's the food. Oh, the food! The menu is a delightful blend of classic pub fare and modern culinary innovation. I had the parma, which was cooked to perfectionâcrispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and topped with a rich, flavorful sauce. My companion raved about the steak, which was seared beautifully and cooked exactly as requested. Every dish that passed our table looked and smelled incredible, a testament to the kitchen's dedication to quality. The drinks list is equally impressive, featuring a great selection of local beers, wines, and expertly crafted cocktails. âWhat truly sets the Golden Gate Hotel apart, however, is the impeccable service. The staff are not just well-mannered; they are genuinely experienced professionals who anticipate your needs with a smile. They are knowledgeable about the menu, quick to offer recommendations, and attentive without being intrusive. âThis exceptional level of service and the seamless operation of the entire establishment can only be attributed to one person: the manager. It's clear that the manager has created a culture of excellence, a place where every staff member takes pride in their work and contributes to the overall fantastic atmosphere. A special round of applause and heartfelt thanks to them for running such a fantastic establishment. âThe Golden Gate Hotel is a true gem in South Melbourne. I left feeling completely satisfied and already looking forward to my next visit. I will most certainly be back again, and I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining and...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience with the service at this pub, mainly due to Keith, one of the staff members. My friends and I visited to enjoy a meal and a drink, but the service was frustrating from the start.
When I arrived, I noticed the pub had a WiFi network named after it, labeled as âfree customer WiFi.â Since my phone reception was poor, I went to the counter to buy a drink and asked Keith about the WiFi. His response was dismissiveâhe said they didnât have any, despite the network being visible. When I pointed this out, he shrugged without offering any explanation or suggesting anyone else might help. I felt like he just didnât care.
I decided to let it go and returned to sit with my group outside. When we ordered food, the table was sticky, so my partner asked Keith to clean it. He only wiped one small section on her side, leaving the rest dirty. It felt half-hearted and lazy.
Later, when the food arrived, my partner asked Keith for a little olive oil for the salad. He told her they didnât have any, which seemed odd given the type of food they serve. She had to ask another staff member, who was polite, asked her to wait, and eventually brought the olive oil.
At one point, I asked Keith to clean my part of the table, as it was still sticky. He made a quick, minimal effort, wiping an unrelated area of the table while ignoring the section where I was sittingâeven though Iâd moved my food to make space.
Overall, the attitude and effort from Keith were disappointing and affected the experience for our group. Itâs a shame, as we came to enjoy a nice evening and good food, but the poor service made it difficult to do so.
Yeap, I took the time to do this because it was not okey at all. Very...
Read moreWe stopped in for a pub crawl and didnât want to leave due to the live music. It really is a lovely old charming South Melbourne pub with a great happy hour
New We visited for post work farewell drinks for a departing colleague on the eve of the latest lockdown, if I knew we were going to be extended with even harsher rules we probably would have had a bigger night!
This was the first time Iâve been here without having an actual meal but I tucked into the yummy chips whilst the boys enjoyed the beers.
Latest We returned to the Golden gate for dinner ordering the same dishes again, as you can see from the photos whilst the crockery might change the consistency of plating is identical and the quality and value for money is unaltered. I definitely recommend a visit
Recent Back at the GG for dinner as itâs certainly fantastic value for money. We've actually never walked out of here for $20 when we came in with the intention of eating the $10 steaks as we'll get the calamari and maybe a salad to share too but I always find it to be good pub grub and in fact the dining room section is actually quite fancy (and the sticky date is amazing too).
Updated review Having frequented the Golden Gate on many an occasion for their $10 steaks I think the quality actually surpasses most of what you get at various steak nights around Richmond which are usually more the $14 mark. And they offering this all day every day. The chips are pretty good too and the blue cheese sauce I opt for is lovely.
Original review Tonight I opted for a cheesy pizza and a Parma which were your typical pub classics, tasty and familiar. Quite loud and busy on a Friday night but you'll forgive them given they are running a pretty...
