Hands down the best Pho in Melbourne… You may find the way Pho a gogo operates a bit strange if you haven’t been here before, but that’s what makes it so unique, as well as the incredible Pho, and with a bit of patience, you’ll see how well it works. When arriving, you will notice the door is locked and think it’s shut, despite there are people inside. Ring the bell as requested and wait to be attended to. You will then be asked if you’d like to take away or eat in. You may have to wait outside a minute to enter while a table is set for you. This is so that the husband and wife team can efficiently manage orders and tables. And it works great! If you are asked to wait outside, don’t take offence or get upset. They can only prepare so many meals at once, so to wait to come in and order for a little bit is not unreasonable to allow the kitchen to not get backed up too much. Once in, it won’t be long before you are asked what you’d like to order, and whether you’ll be paying cash or card. Don’t take offence to the paying up front part. It’s part of the streamlined process and keeps things moving and efficient. The food here is incredibly tasty, always fresh, and the Pho in particular is honestly the tastiest, most beautifully presented and consistent you will find anywhere in Melbourne. Since discovering this place last year, I have been here in excess of 30 times and have gotten to know the owner Duke and his lovely wife in that time. Once you are finished, you’ve already paid so you can simply get up and let yourself out. Although the door is kept locked from the inside, you can simply slide the latch to let yourself out. I have never had a bad experience in my time coming here, nor have I witnessed any bad experiences for anyone else. Yes, the restaurant is run in a way that you may not be used to, but that’s ok, the owners can run their restaurant how they wish, and the many people who regularly go there would agree. If you are having bad experiences here, this is most likely a result of yourself. Don’t pay attention to the negative spam posts. I am a real person, I haven’t been paid and I love eating Pho! My favourite dish and the one I highly recommend is Spicy Beef Noodles!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pho A Gogo, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. What sets this place apart, aside from the fantastic pho, is the incredibly accommodating and humble owner, Tak, and his wonderful family. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine sense of hospitality. It's evident that the owner and his family take immense pride in not only the food they serve but also in ensuring every guest feels at home. Now, let's talk about the pho - it's simply outstanding. The flavors are rich and authentic, and you can tell that a lot of love and tradition go into every bowl. Whether you're a seasoned pho enthusiast or trying it for the first time, you won't be disappointed. The menu offers a variety of options to cater to different tastes, and I appreciate the attention to detail in the preparation of each dish. But what truly sets Pho A Gogo apart is the personal touch. Tak took the time to check in on every table, making sure we were enjoying our meals. It's not every day that you meet an owner who is so hands-on and genuinely cares about their customers. In a world where dining experiences can often feel rushed and impersonal, Pho A Gogo is a refreshing change. The combination of exceptional food and the welcoming atmosphere created by Tak and his family make it a must-visit spot for anyone looking to savor delicious pho while feeling like part of a larger, caring family. I wholeheartedly recommend Pho A Gogo and look forward to returning soon. Thank you, Tak, and your family, for a memorable dining experience.

The pho here was exceptional and only having recently returned from Vietnam can I really appreciate what was presented in this bowl of flavourful beef broth. You might think the service is a bit rough - ring a door bell, have a door open with demands of how many people, the door shut with no invitation to come in and sit down, then eventually be let in to be sat only as directed with immediate requests of what to order followed by the EFTPOS machine thrust in your face to pay all in the first 5 minutes.. but only after having been to Vietnam can I truly appreciate this unique experience and not be turned off by it. This place is family run with no frills but what frills do you need other than deliciousness in a bowl of homestyle and authentic noodle soup? The husband serves, the wife cooks and the kidlet gets involved in the cutest possible "I want to help too" kind of way. The beef was thinly cut and extremely tender, the broth was light but rich, the noods were cooked to perfection and the serving size satisfied all my pho cravings where I was full without feeling stuffed. If you stay long enough, the owner will warm to your presence, provide you some fresh fruit, ask your honest opinion and, even after rave reviews for years, will be humbled by your response. A true hidden pho-nomenal gem and a must eat on your next nood-related adventure!

I understand that some of you are upset with the owner and have left negative reviews. Yes, the service may not be the friendliest, and the rules, like the door being locked and having to be asked through the window whether you’re dining in or ordering takeaway, can feel a bit unwelcoming. Even bringing your own water bottle isn’t allowed, you have to buy water if you don’t like tap water. It’s also not very child-friendly, as prams aren’t allowed inside, and you need to leave them outside. And even paying upfront. I get that it’s not the most accessible experience, but I feel some of the negative reactions have been too excessive, maybe because expectations were too high. If you open your mind a little, your experience might change. This is a small family business run by a lady and a man, with occasional help from their kids. They put a lot of effort into what they do, and the soup is truly exceptional because the owner takes great care in making it. That’s why it feels so comforting and genuine. Personally, I feel grateful for the honour of enjoying such authentic food.

Visiting from Singapore! (Came in June 2022) Lovely authentic Pho down in Southbank, nearby our Airbnb. True to the reviews, the owner of the shop was really nice and popped by our table for a quick chat over the food. More importantly, the Beef Pho itself was superb! A hearty, yet clean tasting broth, the bowl was packed with flavour and the beef was perfectly cooked. As with an authentic Pho experience, you get a plate of beansprouts and Thai basil along with the noodles for you to add to your own liking. Our empty bowls speak for itself - this was just what we needed on a chilly evening. Not to forget the spring rolls which were sensational. A must have while waiting for your bowl of Pho to arrive. Overall, really homey place and I’d definitely be back on future visits to Melbourne! Edit: Have seen some reviews about an “angry owner” but this personally not the case for us! We came nearing their closing time but he was willing to whip out the bowls of Pho for us nonetheless. Our chat was pleasant and we left with a good impression of the place.

You might find it unusual at first. The door is locked, and before you can enter, you’ll be asked through the window whether you’re dining in or taking away. Only after that will they let you in. You also pay for your meal upfront when you order. But once you start eating, your opinion will change. This is not just any regular instant pho. It’s a work of art, made with a lot of time and care. If you expect a fancy atmosphere and top-notch service, you might be disappointed. However, if you’re looking for truly delicious pho, this is the place to be. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied. After eating here, my stomach feels so comfortable. When I eat out at other places, my stomach often feels heavy, and I tend to feel bloated and gassy. But here, it’s completely different because they make it honestly and with care. I’m from Sydney, and during my 4-day trip to Melbourne, I visited this place twice. After trying different foods, I felt I had to return for my last meal before heading home. It’s absolutely worth it, so make sure to stop by!
