One of the worst dining experiences we've had. Dont waste your time or your money.
Similar price point to a Squires, Meat & Wine Co or Railway Club Hotel but not even in the ball park for quality or experience. Correction, not even the same sport.
Disappointed would be an understatement after being recommended this place for its steak. Expected far more at the expensive price point. Way over priced for what they delivered. Zero atmosphere, service was poor, and food quality was worse. After being seated we were advised to order quickly and avoid waiting behind a large table soon to arrive. After waiting well over an hour and seeing that tables meals served first we called the wait staff over. The meals had clearly been forgotten. There was no apology. When they finally arrived at the table it was evident they had been rushed out. If you eat with your eyes id have lot my appetite. Zero points for presentation. The steak was supposed to be a 350 gram Scotch Fillet. It was well under weight and ate like an old shoe. Budget supermarket grade beef. Although not mentioned on the menu the steaks came with a sauce and a side. The sauce options weren't even on the menu. I would usually get a Blue Cheese sauce but they had gorgonzola instead, it was disgusting. Sides were either mash potato, chat potatos or chips. I opted for the chats, they were drowned in oil, under cooked and had no seasoning on them at all. I also order a "Garden salad". It looked more like the side salad you get with your Parma and chips and the pub. This too had no dressing. My partner ordered some kind of seafood dish. Looked impressive but once all the shells were removed it was nothing more than a bland seafood soup like slop. We had guests that also ordered steak. They ordered chips as a side, can't remember what sauce but neither were happy with their meal. The table beside us were comp't their drinks after complaining about the wait, we were not. I reluctantly paid the bill only to find we'd been charged for the chips and the gorgonzola sauce. I queried this with the staff who called the manager over to explain that those sides and that sauce were an extra charge. (Chips were and extra charge, are you joking!!??) I argued that it wasn't specified on the menu, nor was it explained while ordering and got them removed. The only win for the night.
In short... will not return, would...
Read moreDo not waste your time or money here. I've never experienced such terrible service in my life.
Booked for lunch on a weekend here to celebrate a family member's birthday. We found out an additional person would be coming, so I called two hours in advance and left a message notifying them.
We turned up and were met with sarcasm and arrogance. I reminded the staff member that we had one more person and he said, "Nice of you to let us know!" When I mentioned I called on advance and left a message he stated he was working at the time, inferring I was lying and didn't call.
It got worse from there. When one of my elderly family members wanted to order a pizza to share with his wife, the waiter said they have a strict "no sharing" policy. We were left in a bit of shock and said we'd need more time to think over our orders.
Mind you, this place isn't cheap - think $45 for a steak. Shaming a pensioner who didn't want to be wasteful and order too much food is disgusting.
When the waiter returned, we politely stated that we were going to leave, as the policy had left a bad taste in our mouths. The waiter proceeded to berate us, raising his voice and saying repeatedly, "I don't make the rules, I just enforce them."
When I questioned the logic of this policy considering I've never encountered it before, he said the manager would rather have an empty table than a bunch of cheap people sharing one pizza together. This mentality probably explains why there were only two other tables with customers at a peak serving time.
The waiter's behaviour was out of line and left me mortified for bringing my family here. I will never return to Stone and will be telling my family and friends to avoid it.
If you'd like a quality meal with friendly staff, I'd recommend checking out...
Read moreAppalling........ my family and I traveled up to Melton to celebrate my birthday and my daughter in-law had booked a table (1pm) at Stones (thinking it would be the best restaurant in Melton) we called the restaurant at 11am and left a message that we would need to add another guest to the booking. When we arrived we were greeted by the front of house and confirmed with him that we had another guest. His retort “well it would of been nice for you to let us know!” Our response was that we had actually called in the morning and left a message. The restaurant was empty except for 1 table of 2 people.... We were seated, 2 of us were given menus and he walked off to attend to something else before returning to the table to give the other guests their menus..... He returned to the table to ask if we would like something to drink 🍷 and after only ordering 1 ginger beer he rudely, abruptly and noisily collected our wine glasses....... not taking into consideration that we were intending to order wine when we had decided to order our meals. He returned to take our food order, my father asked for 2 plates to share a pizza and salad 🥗 with his wife and the response before even having the chance to ask for the salad we were RUDELY told that there was NO sharing meals allowed in this establishment. At this point we were all convinced that he was joking....... but he was definitely not ! He returned once again to our table table to ask what we had decided. As we were horrified and disgusted I turned to him and told him we had decided to leave. He then proceeded to raise his voice and became rude, loud and obnoxious. We will never return again and will verbalise our experience to...
