The Conti Bar — Restaurant in Melbourne

We decided tonight to have dinner at the Conti Beer Garden. Upon arrival, we were advised that our seating was conditional and based on 1hr 20min. We sat down at 6pm with drinks, arriving almost immediately. After multiple attempts to get the attention of the staff (15min) we finally placed our orders and began a long and painful 45 minute waiy. Whilst several attempts were made to get the attention of staff and to get an update.... another 15 minutes had passed only to be told the order was not processed! After waiting an additional 10 minutes, all of our food came at once (starters and mains) & it was cold! As we are finally trying to have our meal, another two tables are desperately trying to place their orders..... good luck! Extremely disappointed with the overall service and in general the food. Crispy pork salad was average, 4 itsy bitsy pieces of pork and definitely not crispy and the salad was literally all cabbage. A buzzing casual pub vibe let down by confused (if friendly) service, seriously earbashing atmosphere and an overpriced menu. We visited on a Saturday night, so perhaps another night would be less frenetic, but the place was LOUD. Hugely overamplified guitar player in the front bar to the point where you couldn't even hear conversation, lots of group tables of birthdays and hen's nights all screaming in the main dining section, where the only seating options are heavy raised tables and uncomfortable stools. Although we ordered an entrée and two mains, they all arrived together within about 10 minutes of ordering. The prawn pizza was tasty but unfortunately sloppy. The lamb ragu pasta was just so so. Our wine order caused our waiter to mysteriously disappear for 20 minutes, so we'd half finished our meals before he reappeared and announced he couldn't find it. I recently visited The Conti, and unfortunately, it was less enjoyable than I had hoped.

While the service was excellent, with a friendly and helpful waitress who provided good ordering recommendations, the overall experience left much to be desired. The cocktails were great—well-balanced and well made.

The food, though decent, lacked the "oomf" I was expecting. The flavors were fine, but not particularly memorable. To make matters worse, my meal arrived lukewarm, which was disappointing. I was offered a replacement, but it didn’t seem worth the trouble for a dish that might not have been much better.

When it comes to price, I felt that the quality didn’t quite justify the cost. For the price point, I expected a higher standard of both food and overall dining experience.
