PSA for disabled people - this venue is super inaccessible. Only seating offered in bandroom is a set of low steps (I can't get down that low!!) that are off to the side, so once the venue is full you cannot see the stage from there. There are hand rails on the ends of the steps but not in the middle, so there's really only support for people sitting on the edges. Also note that there's no allocated aisle or pathway, so once the venue is full, there is no way to get out of the crowd without weaving through people which is very difficult when you are disabled!! As a result, I could not access the bar or the bathrooms until the show was over and everybody left. When leaving, there is no order and no security to enforce order, so people push past to get out and form a bottleneck at the exit that is a door that allows room for 1 person at a time through. Again there is no aisle on the side of the crowd so you essentially get pushed along with the crowd because there is nowhere to stand off to the side until the rush is over.
Edit: The Croxton Bandroom would like me to announce that they have accessible entrances and disabled toilets - the toilets I couldn't get to but they would've been accessible once I got there. They would also like me to make mention of accessibility for disabled people who use wheelchairs - unfortunately as I don't use a wheelchair I wasn't offered early entrance to the venue or access to the special viewing area for people on wheelchairs. They also want me to mention they give free entry to carer card holders, again something not applicable to me and information that I had no idea about. Also note that none of the staff approach disabled people on their way in the check if they need extra assistance.
My review serves it's purpose giving information that is not listed on their website, not as an opportunity to pat them on the back for having disabled toilets i.e. the...
Read moreWe have been coming to the Croxton for a meal nearly every week for the last few years, enjoying the atmosphere (a mix of loyal locals and various groups coming to eat before whichever band they had come to see) and also the food. The menu before this one was great- innovative, tasty, a range of choices, and the rotating specials kept things fresh. The tomato and watermelon salad was so unusual and a taste sensation, as was the lamb rump with sweet potato mash. You could feel and taste the care that was taken with the food. The new menu tonight was uninspiring and limited, with no specials board. Only a few of the meals vaguely appealed to us - I chose the lamb shank with root vegetables, and my partner the chicken burger. My shank was tasteless and the vegetables a chore to get through. My partner’s chicken burger seemed to have a processed chicken patty, rather than a fillet or breast, and he didn’t finish it. We are very sad- it seems we will be looking to find a new local. End of an...
Read moreWe had a meal in the bistro before catching a band in the band room. It took almost an hour for two philly cheesesteak burgers and chips (on a Tuesday when the joint was half empty). The chips were fantastic. The burgers were raw. I wish I could attach a photo. Not just rare, but flat out raw, and cold. Fortunately for the staff, the meals are prepaid and tips are asked for at payment. So a tip was given even though a) staff should be paid well enough so tips aren't needed and b) no tip was deserved. If we weren't rushing to get to see the band, I would have been asking for my money back.
I get that mistakes happen, but waiting an hour for food that isn't even cooked? At least The Hu put on a fantastic show in the band room. They should've got my tip.😉
The two stars is for the chips.
Edit: the manager's comments below are really disappointing. I can assure you the steak in those burgers was raw, not rare; I know the difference. It was cold and raw. As I said, I wish I could...
