The Grand Tofu (Doncaster East) — Restaurant in Melbourne

Summary:- Deliberately False, Misleading Deceptive conduct under Australian Consumer Law. Advertised Pork Spare ribs with steamed Rice in Menu. However in actual customer only get cheap pork meat with steam rice. Advertised beef with tomato rice in menu but only serve with plain rice.

Complained to the owner of the restauranat about this he refused to accept this fact that he is not serving pork spare rib. This is a clear indication that the action is deliberately.

He did nothing to compensate or to make good instead challenged me to complain to the authority.

Owner of restaurant Chinese background and the majority of clients are of the same background. Even the waitress from Malaysia who served said in every restaurant in Melbourne you wouldnt be served with pork spare rib if you ordered this type of dish. Her remarks showed how ignorent is she! In Australia you have the right refuse the product and refund or exchange if the advertising is misleading or deceptive

Owner try to get away from Australian Law thinking that the customer wouldn't complain and they are living in their own world of autocratic undemocratic and from their home country not subject to Australian law forgetting they are operating their legal business in Australia!!!

If you dont believe go to this restaurant and order the pork spare rib with rice and see what you would get?

I believe that the Australian Consumer authority should be informed about this and the heavy penalty for his action of deliberately false misleading deceptive action in his restaurant!

On 21 May 2023, We went to this restaurant.

I ordered Sweet and Sour Pork Spare Ribs with Steamed Rice, Beef with tomato rice and also Malaysia Laksa.

But instead of pork spare rib they give me other part of pork meat the cheap part. ( Attached picture)I called the owner in he refused to admit it should be spare rib.

Furthermore in his menu he did not show the picture of spare rib with steam rice. Beef with tomato rice but only with plain rice not tomato rice (was informed prior that no tomato rice available)

The owner very arrogant and said I can complain to whichever authority. He said cannot cancel the order and forced us to pay the food. In Australia you have the right to cancel if the product you order did not meet the specification.

I m not happy I m not getting what I ordered and paid for. Order spare rib but given other cheap part of meat.

Attached the picture pork spare rib. Does it look like a spare rib???

I was a veterinarian in overseas I know how to differentiate . Don't you think the owner misleading and deceiving...

Really disappointing dining experience. We used to visit this restaurant once in a while. Last time when four of us visited the rice was too wet. We left with most of the rice unfinished. We decided to give this restaurant one more chance tonight, and tried to order something different from plain rice due to last time's experience.

The two Hainan chicken rice came up disappointing again and worse than last time. I told the waitress the rice is too wet and see if they have rice that is not that wet. She told me it is going to be the same. So I ask if I can have some noodles instead. She said I cannot have noodles just like I am trying to take some advantage. She said she can give me some plain rice. She showed me the rice it was very wet too. I asked if I could pay for a dry noodle but she needed to charge me $4.5, even though it was due to their food quality problem and apparently I have no option. I decided not to pay for it due to her rude attitude and I didn't see she was trying to fix the problem or acknowledging it was their problem.

Me and my wife hardly finished half of the rice, just...

Ever since this place opened I've been meaning to come check it out but it's always seemed busy which doesn't work for me as I usually don't plan ahead much... But today I thought I'd drop in as I was in the mood for some salted fish and chicken fried rice...and I'm glad I did!

I came a little before midday and wasn't expecting a seat but was pleasantly surprised there was some free spots so decided to dine in as opposed to getting take away.

The staff member who served us was very friendly and accommodating.

Soon after ordering our meals came out and was pleasantly surprised at the portion size.

My meal was great, one of the best I've had in a long time after trying to find a good one around Doncaster and Box Hill for a while.

I'd be happy to come back not only for my favourite dish but to try some of the others that...
