On Sunday 02/12/2018 myself and a few of my friends went to The Sporting Globe in Werribee to watch the boxing at their rooftop bar. As I live and work in Werribee I often go to this establishment regularly. On this particular day I was left feeling very disappointed and disgusted by the service I was given. I understand that it was busy on the rooftop on this particular day but the bar man was extremely rude and unprofessional. He purposely over looked myself and 3 of my friends at different points in the day who waited patiently to order drinks. He served customers who had just come up to the bar while we had been waiting for sometimes over ten minutes. The main thing that upset me was the fact that he was really smug towards me when I wanted to order food for us to eat whilst enjoying the boxing. It was clear that he was being selective as the table of men in front of us had ordered what I would call a buffet of food and others around us where also being served food. He stated to me with a smirk on his face I would not be allowed to order food from him or eat it at the rooftop bar, I would have to go downstairs. When I asked why and stated that many other patrons had ordered food and have been given food just before me he said that “ the rules had just changed”. He then went on to take a food order from the gentleman standing next to me after I was just told no. We did not eat any food for the whole 5 hours we were at your establishment because of this situation, which I believe was an extremely selective and unfair decision made by your bar man.
I am very disappointed and upset. I work in the hospitality industry and I would never treat any customers the way I or my friends had been treated that day. I would just like to point out that we were all respectful and nice towards the gentleman all day regardless of how he treated us. I’m not sure if I will return as it has left an awful impression with me and my friends....
Read moreThe service from the staff was lovely, and the waitress that tended to us was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The only problem was the quality of the food, it definitely didn't leave me satisfied. We purchased a garlic bread starter with some chicken bites, and for our main meals we purchased a burger and veggie parma. The first item to come out was the garlic bread which was absolutely fantastic (with added cheese), then the chicken bites arrived - COLD. They were literally so cold it was almost like they had been sitting on the bench for the past 20 minutes - definitely well below holding temperature, especially for chicken. The veggie parma was okay, though the burger was not the greatest. Paid for extra bacon, only got two slices, and the actual burger patties were way too over-cooked, well, they were seared on the outside and essentially medium rare on the inside. The charred patties did not taste good. Low and slow is the way to go. When we were finished, the lovely waitress came up to take our plates and asked how everything went. I politely explained the above, and she was extremely attentive offering a free drink or side, however, we were already full and quenched from our food and drinks - so it wasn't necessary. It was great service by the waitress, though the food quality is questionable. I would probably give this restaurant another try next time, but probably won't go for the beef burger. For the price paid ($90 for 2 people), it was quite pricey for the quality of the food. It would be nice if the burgers came with a salad as well as chips, as it felt like there wasn't enough salad with only 1 slice of leaf lettuce...
Read moreI’ve been to plenty of sports bars in my time, but nothing could have prepared me for The Sporting Globe… specifically, for Chris, the manager.
From the moment we walked in, Chris had this overly intense eye contact thing going on, like he was trying to guess our drink order by sheer telepathy. He insisted on seating us himself — which was fine — but then walked backwards the whole way to the table while telling us the “rules of the booth” like it was a safety briefing on an aircraft. (Rule #1 was apparently “no elbows on the table.”)
Throughout the meal, he kept reappearing out of nowhere. Not from the kitchen, not from the bar… just materialising like some sports-themed apparition. At one point he stood silently behind my friend for a solid 30 seconds before saying, “How’s the vibe here? You guys vibing?”
When we ordered wings, Chris personally delivered them — which would have been nice, except he gave a long speech about how he once “set a personal record” for eating 38 wings in one sitting and “paid the price the next day.” He laughed. We didn’t.
The weirdest part was the check. Instead of just bringing it over, he slid into our booth uninvited, sat next to me, and went through the bill item by item, nodding after each one as if waiting for applause. Then he told us we’d “earned his respect” and gave us a fist bump on the way out.
Food was fine. Service from the waitstaff was great. But Chris? Chris turned what should’ve been a casual dinner into an awkward...
