This is one of those cafes you go to because there seems to be a lot of hype around them, or they have one or two good items on the menu that people post pics of on Instagram, so you feel you have to try it. I'm glad I've tried it, but it's quite overhyped in my honest opinion. The menu is good. I mean, many cafes in Melbourne are various replicas of each other. You can honestly go to almost any cafe for breakfast/lunch/brunch and find exceptionally similar items. I came here to try the Fish Tacos and the Red Velvet Pancakes (which are very beautifully presented). Honestly, the tacos were a little disappointing, as I was looking for a crisp shell. The fish itself was beautiful and fresh and very tasty, and crumbed perfectly. But there was a lot of spicy things along with it and it irritated my tongue a bit. My companion also ordered their dish and it was VERY spicy with no mention of spice on the menu. The staff were very good to accept the blame and switch the dish out. That was commendable. As for the pancakes, well they look beautiful. They're great if you want to post a pretty picture. They do taste like regular pancakes and the ice cream that came with them was delicious. And although nothing seriously bad happened here, it's just another cafe and nothing all too special. I would recommend it to you if you just want to try somewhere new, but as for me, I don't think it's a place I'd return to over and over again unless a friend wanted to specifically meet there. They have their own small parking lot right out the front, and the food is reasonably priced. But for the 20 minutes it takes me to get there and back, I just am glad I've been, but would try elsewhere new to me now.

I grew up in this area and in my day there were just daggy sandwich places and dodgy fish n chip shops but now trendy cafes are springing up everywhere with The Tradesman Cafe being such an example. Husband had scrambled eggs on toast while I had avocado smash with a side of spinach. My meal came with eggs also which my husband had and we had coffees (soy lattes and flat white). There is lots of seating inside and some outside, nicely decorated. However what I couldn't get over was the fact that they charge you $3 for a plate if you order from their sides menu only. So let me get this straight if I order spinach, tomatoes, hash browns, etc for over $15 I'm charged another $3 to plate it? Come on that's outrageous, I've been to over 100 cafes and I have seen this at only one other and I wouldn't go back to there and I may not go back here either.

We were invited to the Tradesman and I was surprised and wowed by the cute fit out of cafe nestled in such an industrial area (hence the name!). I was also pleasantly delighted that they had a basket of children’s toys and a tv playing abc kids given I had my little one in tow. Food wise I absolutely loved the rosti that my husband added to his fritters and upon enquiring we learned it was housemade. You could definitely taste the quality and I thoroughly recommend adding to your order. The red velvet hotcakes were a visual delight and as such I had to fight my daughter for them. Super friendly service too

Please see my response to the below "feedback" from the owner

Sadly you cannot take the below feedback and improve, rather judge the customer and make assumptions they are 'out for a free meal'

I have ordered the same item over 2 weeks ago, and received the poor quality item, but decided to give you another try, to 'support local'. I have had 1 other bad experience with you, not numerous, as you have stated.

In regards to the point of ' the fault does not lie with us' as a business it absolutely falls on you.

All of the delivery sites ( menulog/zomato/uber) still have the incorrect menu. At the end of the day you are advertising a product you cannot provide. I stand by my review and your threat of not taking my orders is unwarranted, as I already stated on the phone to you that I will not be a return customer. You had the opportunity to rectify the situation, yet just kept saying 'sorry, sorry' with no solution.

Especially at a time like this you should be doing everything to keep your customers

Again, I hope other customers continue to have their freedom of speech which you intend to seemingly just wash over and continue 'business as usual'

ORIGINAL REVIEW- Ordered the tradesman brekky for $23.50 and got 2 eggs, small amount of bacon and mushroom, 1 piece of white bread with a small spread of avo,a tomato and 1 generic hashbrown.

A big difference from what the menu states.

Eggs, field mushrooms, house made potato rosti, roasted tomatoes, avocado smash, free range otway bacon, chorizo, mixed seeds and beetroot puree on grain bread. (I've had this actual meal a few times and its been great!)

Now, Disappointing and bland food. The quality has really gone down , it's a shame.won't be eating...

You hear the name, then you see the place and you're just a bit taken aback, pleasantly so. Then you see the food. Not only is the presentation creative and professional, but the food itself is a wonderful take on Western breakfast with Middle Eastern and Asian influences sprinkled in.

My wife and I had brunch here and she had the velvet pancakes and watermelon, pineapple and x juice which was such a well balanced drink, not too much of the pineapple or other fruit I forget the name of to overpower the watermelon, but enough to really accompany it.

I had the smashed avo and it incorporated Persian feta, hints of cumin powder and an assortment of other ingredients that complement but never overpower in the slightest. This same applies to everything else that was served with our meals and drinks. Each item seemed to have been very well thought out, and had a fresh take on them without straying too far from what you'd expect.

The staff were also incredibly kind, helpful and respectful. They had a good initiative too, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and well...
