I ordered gluten free toast and they served me regular toast with gluten in it. I did not eat it, thankfully, and luckily my intolerance to gluten traces isn't severe. We asked the waitress to check if it was gluten free and took five minutes to come back to us to tell us there was a mix up. Then she brought gluten free toast just as I was finishing the meal. She was somewhat apologetic but really didn't seem interested. When it came to paying the bill, we asked to check it to make sure we weren't being charged for the mistake. We then impressed upon the waitress how important people's dietary requirements are, as some people get very sick even from traces. This feedback seemed to upset her, but we weren't overcharged, so we paid the bill and decided to leave. Then the manager came out and yelled at us for upsetting his staff and said he didn't care if I got sick from the food he served, which was a real possibility if I had eaten all of it. When we tried to explain ourselves, he continued to yell, so we decided to ask for a full refund. It was a tense and awkward situation for us and other customers. We got a full refund but the manager couldn't help but say "I hope you enjoyed your free lunch." Completely disrespectful to two customers who had phoned ahead, ordered what I needed and didn't get what I asked for.
Dietary requirements are not to be taken lightly. This cafe does not offer much in the way of gluten free food anyway. So if you have dietary requirements, I say avoid Kokomo completely.
IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNER: while I might not have indicated I was the caller, I did actually ask for gluten free bread when placing my order. She didn't need to know I was the caller to get the order correct. Maybe she should write things down when...
Read morewe didn't get to eat here because it was closing, and the staff at the time were absolutely so sweet about that! but we had wrongly assumed that because it was about to close, and that there was another table outdoors occupied, that we could stop for a rest with our dog and have something to eat. i feel awful that we made a mistake with that, but the way we found out was so horrible!!
the manager or person in charge at the closing time I'm guessing, came out and asked us to leave as they weren't a "picnic table" they were a business, and if we were going to eat food that wasn't theirs, then we could leave. but their staff had made it very clear ten minutes or so ago that they weren't selling food at the time?
I'm not sure what drew the response from that particular staff member to be so sarcastic and annoyed, but that really truly was an honest mistake on our part :// please be kinder to your patrons...
