REVIEW: The mains were the best part of Mr Ryu. Really interesting twists on classic dishes, which brought so much flavour and intrigue. ๐ The Ramen Gnocchi was my favourite. Slightly crispy on the sides, with a softness in the middle... the creaminess of the dish and the addictive savoury cheddar crisps kept me looking for crumbs!! The udon was also great. My dinner partner liked this the most. ๐โ I was very thankful we also ordered the refreshing soba salad to break up the incredible creaminess coming off from both of the main noodle dishes.
โโ The entrees were a little lacking for me, compared to the mains. โ๏ธ The best one was the Chilli Kingfish Sashimi Nori Taco because it had more of a flavour profile from the spiciness, to the slight saltiness of the caviar. โโ The other two options (prawn nori taco, and spicy tuna taco) were a little too plain for my liking.
Service was friendly. I enjoyed the music they played... really modern Japanese type pop coming through. It suited the fusion nature of Mr Ryu...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place beyonded - oh wait I was meant to write exceeded but beyonded seems more appropriate even though itโs not a real word. It beyonded expectations, thatโs how good it was. The service was fantastic from the moment we stepped in their doors. They were super attentive throughout the entire dining experience. The food - wow. This was our first time visiting so we can only base this review on the one dish - we both got the same main course which was the Spicy Mentai Yaki Udon. We also got some salmon sashimi to start which were very fresh and delicious! Our main dishes, the udons were sooo flavoursome with just the right level of kick. Super creamy and topped with a perfect onsen egg (63 degree egg) - soft and runny yet also cooked to just the right amount. Once the onsen egg was poked open and melted onto the noodles and then mixed in, it created an even more mind blowing sauce for each subsequent slurp. Okay but the REAL show stoppers were the three, perfectly battered and perfectly crunchy tempura prawns that the udon noodles were topped with. My friend and I both agreed that these were some of the best tempura prawns we have had! I only wish there were even more! I had to work hard to make sure some of it lasted until the end of the noodles, because you know - gotta save the best till last. Pretty sure I caved though and ate it before the end. Oh well, I highly recommend this restaurant!! Will definitely be coming back and trying the other...
ย ย ย Read moreOrdered a variety of seafood taco snacks and a more substantial spicy mentai yaki udon dish. Taco toppings include tuna, prawn and kingfish; each paired with a different sauce/mayo. The taco shell and the seaweed taco were nice and crunchy and held well without getting too messy while eating. Salmon ceviche was ok; the yuzu mustard dressing was a bit too sweet and the sesame cracker was not to my taste. The yaki udon was creamy and savory, not that spicy and the noodles had a nice chew to it. Also the egg was perfectly cooked with a runny yolk.
Pretty tasty and flavourful food overall with a generous amount of fish and prawns in the dishes. Worth trying if you want some Japanese/Asian...
