Our large family meets in Merimbula regularly to catch up & we always have a great time & stay. As we all travel from interstate. Always support the restaurants & clubs. On recent trip to the Merimbula RSL we found changes which excluded some of our family members from being allowed into the club restaurant. As a couple of our party who do not hold drivers licences & they usually sign in, were advised no licence id you cannot enter this club. They offered their medicare card but it was refused. You must now have a drivers licence or passport id to enter the club. They hold neither of these. For 20 plus years they have been signing into this club without a problem. We spoke to others staying in merimbula who had the similar experiences which was embarrassing. I also bring this to the attention of the club it has a responsibility not to discriminate towards people who don't fit your normal box. Anyway we all ended up at the local hotel instead as we felt no one should be left out. While in the hotel we spoke to another two people affected by this, a lady who moved to Merimbula last year has attempted to join these clubs without success. For many years she also signed in when on holidays, she even offered her medicare card & council rates notice as proof. She has given up trying to join. I want to also add, in previous years we have always found this club too be a great place to eat & enjoy time when on holidays. The staff have always been friendly. It's truly unfortunate that the CEO has clearly not thought about the many other people who have not got drivers licences or passports, especially when those same people have always signed in on previous visits. It clearly shows that having a disability is...
Read moreThe way this establishment manages restaurant bookings is a bit of a joke. They have 2 sittings a night so you book for 5:45 or 7:15. We booked for 7:15 - so did the rest of Merimbula judging by the queue that was waiting. Took 20 minutes for the staff to work their way through the queue by determining who had a reservation and who didn't. The ones who didn't were ushered away to the bar to wait if any vacant tables showed up. Despite this farcical arrangement we managed to be seated by 7:40. After that things sort of improved. It took only 15 minutes or so to get our entrees, but main course took considerably longer to arrive. Enough of their processes, now for the food which I'd rate 4 star but because of above the club only managed a 3 star rating. We ordered oysters Kilpatrick first up which were left under the grill marginally too long. This didn't affect the oyster itself but the bacon and sauce started to show signs of cremation. Main course - I had linguine marina and my wife had swordfish risotto. Both of these dishes were very well cooked and presented. The linguine was full of mussels, scallops, prawns, calamari and bits of fish. The seafood was cooked perfectly and there was a hint of chilli which built up through the eating of the dish. The risotto was cooked as risotto should be and topped by a good size piece of swordfish, which was cooked very well. Despite the issues on arrival it was an enjoyable meal. Had the reservation issues been handled differently the star rating would have been a 4 potentially 5. Processes let...
Read moreWe ate here twice on our Merimbula holiday and the first time we had a pretty good experience but the second time was pretty poor from the minute we walked in.
The staff member assisting guests to sign in was really rude to me and my husband. While we were juggle 2 kids, and looking for ID we told my husband 3 times to take off his hat, while we respect the not hat policy he didn't give my husband a chance to take it off as we weren't even in the lift yet.
When we were seated we asked for a high chair, and we were told there was none left, we did however book one when we made our booking.
The food was pretty average both times.
One hour and 15min into being there a waitress came over and rudly asked us to leave as apparently they had another session in after us. We weren't told we had a time frame when we booked or being seated nor where we given any notice while we were sitting there. She literally walked over and said you need to leave now and when we asked why she said its not her problem and that they needed the table for the next session. Thankfully we had finished eating.
We were annoyed but happy to move however her rudeness was un called for.
The kids meal come with an ice cream, both times they got an icypole.
I wouldn't go back again. Too many rude staff for an average experience especially when there are so many better options...
