⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Mudgee – Outside the Square Café
From the moment you step into Outside the Square, you know you’re in for something special. Tucked away just off the main street, this charming café is everything you could want in a regional gem — warm hospitality, a relaxed vibe, and food that could rival any big-city brunch spot.
The coffee? Impeccable. Smooth, rich, and made with real care — you can tell the baristas know their craft. But it’s the food that truly elevates this place: creative, fresh, and made with seasonal, local ingredients. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic brekkie roll or something more adventurous like their signature vegan bowl or house-made pastries, every plate is a work of art (and tastes even better than it looks).
The staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome — friendly without being overbearing, attentive without rushing you. And the space itself? Light-filled, with thoughtful touches that make it both stylish and cozy. It’s the kind of place where you lose track of time, chatting over coffee or simply enjoying...
Read moreSitting outside and after a big wedding the night before we didn't want a noisy cafe so this was perfect with just the right amount of sun and shade at 9am. Food was perfect. Just the right amount for breakfast and delicious. Hubby had the scrambled eggs with spinach and feta , just to his particular taste, which he often doesn't get. I had the eggs Benedict the first morning and the corn fritters second morning -because you never can tell - corn fritters needs a bit more confidence in a place's abilities... Love love, loved the commitment to reducing waste by having washable napkins in the bathrooms and a wicker waste basket to put them in. Just like in the fancy hotels. We shared our tea and asked for an extra cup - staff were friendly and accommodating and even offered to take a photo when we were trying to do so ourselves. Even though we were only there two days and it was our first trip to Mudgee we went back the next day. - when you are onto a...
Read moreThe food was fine - but took 1hr 20mins, and was missing some items. We don't mind waiting - although usually it would be polite of the server to give a heads up that there might be a wait, and with two small kids, a warning so we could fetch something to occupy them would have been appreciated. Definitely would NOT go back - but suspect the tourism and not needing to rely on repeat business is sustaining for them. The tables around us were all the same, even commenting to us how long they'd also been waiting. I mentioned kindly (very much trying not to be a karen!) to the lady running the floor as I paid that a heads up would have been appreciated, and she simply said "oh was it that long? I had no idea, I'll take that feedback" - but no apology, which is a shame, and surprising she wasn't aware of it since I'd have thought that's very much under her remit. So anyway, fair warning if you're passing through, I...
