After over 18 years coming here we wont be ordering from here again. Valentines Day.. thought we would have a nice dinner. Got the vegan panang curry and hub got his usual red curry chicken. Got home to find the Panang was nothing like usual, was watery, really orange, and did not taste anything like the panangs we have had here for 18 years. The red chicken curry looked exactly like a panang. tasted the sauce, it was exactly like a panang. Called them and said we think uv swaped the sauces. Owner was certain they hadn't. So we said we'd bring them back. Hubby came home and said the owner said looked at them, there was no swapping and that this is how the meals are supposed to be. Pretty shocking service from a once lovely local business who had lovely owners and good quality food. It is no longer that. Here are some photos.. the left (bottom bowl) is supposed to be the panang.. the right is supposed to be the red curry.. Definition of Panang curry is descirbed on their menu as : "PANANG A full bodied, creamy curry infused in coconut milk, kaffir lime leaf, ground mung bean " As you can see form these photos this is not 'full bodied' in any sense of the word, and is watery, and not creamy and thick as it used to be. There is no hint of ground mung bean or richness to the sauce. It used to look EXACTLY like the sauce on the right, which clearly has ground 'something' making it thicker, and lighter. Which they are now saying is their red curry. Meanwhile, my husband at his "Red Curry" and said he has never tasted that before. We've been coming here for years. He has never had a panang as he always sticks to what he knows, and he knows he's never had that curry before. So after coming into town 3 times to try to get a dinner, and being told that we were wrong.. we wont be coming back. Surely you can't expect people to be treated like this, giving off obviously different food and then telling us 'thats how it supposed to be'. Isn't this called gaslighting? All we wanted was the same thing we've been coming here for for almost 20 years! What an absolute disappointment to have to write off a...
Read moreI was in Mullumbimby because I went just for my spa session at Kiva. The plan was to head back home to Byron Bay directly. But to my surprise, and completely unexpectedly, I became ravenously hungry at the spa. When I left, I felt like I absolutely needed to eat or I was going to faint. This wasn’t part of the plan due to my budget, but given the circumstances, I decided to turn to Google Maps since the only place I knew in Mullumbimby until yesterday was Kiva 🙈.
To my surprise, the first place I stopped to look at the menu, the kind woman at the entrance was so sweet and helpful that I was immediately charmed and decided to follow my instincts.
The restaurant itself is quite simple in terms of decor, but the food is an absolute 10!!! The taste was delicious and the enormous portions that force you to take a takeaway container, and at the same time, it saves you from having to cook the next day 🤣.
The atmosphere among the staff is exceptional. Since I was alone, I could focus on observing, and it was a joy to see them work with so much enthusiasm, harmony, respect, and camaraderie…
Although they were completely full and kept handing out take-away orders one after another, absolutely everyone was attentive to me the whole time. I felt super comfortable, and the final chat with Jackson, the youngest waiter (I think that was his name), was what charmed me the most. What a sweet, helpful, and adorable young man! (It turned out he was the son of the first woman who welcomed me to the restaurant). How lovely to feel so well taken care of, even though I was totally lost as a customer and my English was awful…
A huge thank you to everyone for the wonderful service. Now I can say I have a favorite restaurant in...
Read moreHad an absolutely stunning meal here. Having lived and worked in Thailand for a number of years I'm mostly disappointed when eating Thai food outside Thailand. Not the case here. Every dish was authentic Thai in flavour even though the heat level was dialed back a bit for the joe average palette. The fish cakes were obviously home made, cooked to perfection and immediately took me back to the night food market of Sukhumvit Soi 55; as did the pork belly salad and the stunning house special - wok fried duck with dry rub seasoning. It was a Thursday night and their takeaway service was pumping. Dine in if you can as good Thai deserves to be respected and eaten straight from the kitchen. Best to book. Oh and by the way the wines were very reasonable priced at roughly 30 bucks a bottle (unlike more pretentious places that charge 80 bucks plus for an 20 buck wine at Dans). If you are ever in Mullumbimby and like Thai food definitely give this joint a try. Went back again as we had to try the whole fried snapper. Very good and the recently added Spanish temperillo went well with the thick, spicy sauce that...
