We had dinner at 6.30 pm on Saturday 17th May 2025. We spent $110 inc. GST.
We were hoping to find a good Chinese restaurant around this area. Unfortunately this Hong Kong Chef let us down. Here are reasons why.
Menu - Too much writing. Literally too much! When you first see the menu, you will see way too many letters (in English) and it is so difficult to choose from. Overwhelming. No photos don't really help.
Food - Overpriced, all dishes had cheap flavour. *I will go into the details below.
Not well trained staff
Details of the food we ordered:
Lychee Soda drink Taste very strong artificial sugar. Too sweet. Not nice and even makes us feel sick. Who would enjoy this?
Kung Pao Chicken Texture of chicken odd The sauce is too salty Not deep flavour They are just adding factory made sauce Not worth the money
Salt and Pepper Pork Hidden bones in almost all the pieces of pork Nearly broke my teeth. Dry Too much salt Not enjoyable Onions are not cooked properly, taste bad and your breath smells horrible after eating
Salt and Pepper Squid Too salty Squid too chewy (low quality squid) Again, the onions were not cooked properly - your breath smells so bad after
Steamed rice (We ordered the largest size) Too squishy You can't see each grain They must have put too much water in it when they cooked Probably the worst quality steamed rice we have ever had in any restaurants
Extra info: • Some staff are friendly, but some are abrupt
• The tables are so sticky!!! (Are they cleaning properly?)
• You are sitting quite close to other customers. A big man came to sit next to me and I was not comfortable. I know the restaurant needs to put as many chairs as possible in the space. But not very pleasant experience.
Quite disappointing and we are not going to recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I looked at their website after we came back home. The menu with pictures - I must say they are fake. Nowhere near the reality of what we are and what other customers were eating on their tables!
I would recommend people not go to this restaurant if they don't want to waste money. I am sure they could do better and we can expect better quality Chinese restaurants in Tuggerah for the future.
Thanks...
Read moreI've been here two times, once on a date and recently with a large group. Both times it's been fantastic. The food is absolutely delicious, filling and generously portioned - meaning the prices are well worth. Drinks included!
The menu is excitingly expansive. When I went with a group of 10 people, we all easily found something different we could enjoy, those with simpler pallets had just as many choices as the more explorative eaters. We were all asking each other how the food tasted because we all had different dishes infront of us - with lots of compliments about said food. As well as sampling each other's dishes, it was really fun and flavorful. The drinks they offer are also varied. Recently I got a Strawberry daiquiri, and as well as being a good cocktail, it was larger then I expected. Drinking slowly, I had it over the course of the night and really enjoyed it. As someone who really like strawberrys, it hit the spot.
The prices, considering how much food you get put in front of you is great. On my date, we collectively spent over $100 and both had multiple containers of leftovers to take home EACH. Our eyes were bigger then out stomach that day, but we both agreed the price for the quality and quantity of food was worth it. And the ability to do split payments helped organise costs with the larger group. Both visits I've had leftovers to take home, and everything I could take home in a plastic tub, I did.
The staff is wonderful - quick, efficient and kind. They really make the dinning experience comfortable and enjoyable. One staff members even took time to teach my grandparents how to use the chop sticks when asked. Making a reservation over the phone was quick and easy too, and the friendliness I was met with on call took the stress out of planning.
The environment is clean, and the atmosphere vibrant. It elevates and encourages conversations with family and friends. As well as a combination of the factors above. It all comes together to be an amazing choice of restaurant for lunch and dinner for all numbers of group. I'll definitely be...
Read moreLocated outside the main Westfield shopping area in Tuggerah, Hong Kong Chef offers an extensive menu that could overwhelm first-time visitors. They provide two menus: a double-sided laminated one and a hefty booklet complete with pictures for those who need a visual guide. We ordered two bowls of Beef Wonton Soup and pork spring rolls. The restaurant wasn’t busy, and the wait staff gave us plenty of time to decide on our order.Unfortunately, the experience took a turn for the worse when the waiter delivered the first bowl of Beef Wonton Soup and spilled a significant amount on my right leg and shoe. Unaware of the mishap, he didn’t offer assistance until I asked for napkins to clean myself up. The hot broth soaked my jeans and brand-new sneakers, leaving a strong beef smell and stains that still haven’t come out. To make matters worse, the spilled soup was left on the floor, creating a hazard. This incident alone was enough to sour the visit. The Beef Wonton Soup itself was tasty with a generous portion size—perfect for taking leftovers home in takeaway containers. The pork spring rolls, however, were standard and unremarkable, typical of most commercial eateries. The atmosphere was further marred by excessively loud music that felt more suited to a rave than a Chinese restaurant, making it difficult to enjoy the meal. Management should reconsider the playlist to better match the dining experience. While the staff member who took our order was friendly, prompt, and helpful, the waiter who spilled the soup seemed disengaged and could benefit from retraining. The food was decent, but the overall experience was disappointing, and we won’t be returning. I’m still wondering who to contact about compensation for my stained clothing and...
