A BIG drum roll please for a new flavour bomb on the Peninsula, The Indian Street at Galleria Ettalong Beach just opened this week. This amazing Northern Indian Restaurant (with a spattering of your southern favourites) is a real contender for āBest Indian Resturantā on The Coast (imo)!
Located on the carpark side of the Ettalong Galleria, this new kid on the block, has a welcoming atmosphere; lovely open & spacious decor, & friendly staff who are happy to recommend signature dishes based on your āheat preferencesā. Follow your nose around the Galleria corridors & youāll find yourself breathing in the exotic aromas of cumin, mustard oil & fenugreek that will point you in their direction.
We indulged in a āIndian Street Food Platterā for two that had a combination of tandoori chicken tikka, tandoori prawns & fried fish served with a mint sauce.
Mains were Chicken Tikka Masala (one of their signature dishes) & Lamb Rogan Josh & a side of butter naan.
I canāt highlight anything in particular as each & every morsel of food was absolutely flavour packed & scrumptious to the point, we scraped every little bit of sauce from each dish with our naanš¤·š»āāļøš
Special shout out to the Butter Naan breadš³, a light delicate mix between Naan & Roti that did not overwhelm the meal with heaviness, & was flexible enough to really āswish aroundā the bowl to ensure all the sauce could be scrapedš
Chef Raj, formerly of the Grand Pavillion (Ettalong & Terrigal for 9 years), is bringing his signature flavours to his new venture, clearly with love & passion for his cuisine.
Theyāve just received their liquor license this week, but will remain BYO, for the foreseeable futurešš»šš»
Also, thereās a little cocktail bar at the side of the restaurant, due to open shortly, where you will be able to just pop in for a drink & enjoy some Indian Street Food snacks! Iām looking forward to this opening too.
Prices are very affordable, our meal was around $80 for 2 persons.
I doubt theyāll be taking āwalk insā for long as I expect when word gets out, bookings will be scarce. Iāll definitely be a regular & Iāve already lined up some friends for a visit as well as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWalking in the Galleria we got excited about the environment. We decided to phone and book a table for two at 6pm. We arrived a little early to find that no booking was written down or made from our phone call. š¤ They then tried to seat us in a very tight corner where the back of the chair of the table next to us would literally be about 30cm from the side of my seat. Dismayed I asked for a table for two that was not reserved but was easier to get to. Sitting down we ordered 2 glasses of Chardonnay. After drinking a few sips we noticed that hubby's glass had a lot of yellow sediment at the bottom. We brought this to their attention and they replaced the wine but it was in a smaller glass 𤣠The samosas were very nice. But be prepared to wait for your main meal as it seems that 'orders to go' get preference and wait longer as you notice that the 'orders to go' get mixed up 𤣠But when we did get our meal, it was delicious, beautiful curries. But the naan š« is very dry, this I feel could really be buttered/oiled up more. There was a cold breeze coming from the side door and patrons were getting cold as well as getting irritated by the constant banging of the door. It would be better to have a door handle for opening and closing, not a latch right at the top of the door, and yes, I do understand that there has to be a safe in/out route and this can be done with a door handle. Overall an ok experience. I'll maybe consider visiting again if I was coming this way again. But the Curry was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had high expectations about this place after reading some reviews however i left feeling very underwhelmed . Ordered onion pakoras they came out within minutes of us ordering. When eating them they were nearly cold in the middle which made me think they were pre made and reheated or possibly frozen and deepfried but not enough to have a warm to hot centre. So i am sure these were not made fresh because no1 they were cold in the middle and no2 this dish is deep fried onions done in a batter so if this was fresh and just deep fried it should be quite hot. When i questioned the waitress she tried to pass off these were just made but when i challenged her and explained they were not hot she meekly said oh i will check. The main was goat curry which was quite nice however there was hardly any goat meat mostly bone in fact i had 2 tiny pieces of meat and my wife had 3 tint bits off the bone. The rice was very sweet and was supposed to have cashews and sultanas but had neither. The waitress never came back with answer to my question about the entree she did ask if we wanted another one or they would deduct it from our bill which pretty much answered my question not freshly...
