I'm reluctant to give this place even 1 star. I had lunch here today and it was terrible, which leads me straight to management and the Board of Directors. Its clear the Board have little to no business acumen at all. If they did they would surely value good food. If you look at successful clubs around the state the one thing the attracts people is food. The dining room looking over the rear carpark is an insult to locals of which I was one as a child, and visitors to Wingham. Why aren't people dining looking out onto Wingham's beautiful central park across to our historic public school, school of arts building, our post office and stunning Catholic Church.
Wingham RSL which I understand was close to closure recently but was offered a lifeline by the Dubbo Memorial Club; will cease to exist if the Board of Directors don't step up and start conducting themselves as business people. Operationally the Wingham RSL is on a knife's edge and its due to the ignorance and lack of business acumen of its Directors.
Using the word terrible to describe my dining experience is probably being polite. The staff are lovely, and very accommodating but the food is so bad I can't even begin to describe it. The potatoes served with the Sunday Roast looked like they had been cooked back in early May and re-heated every day since. If you want to be successful and competitive in hospitality or any business for that matter; you need to do something which encourages people and food is often the one thing that brings people back.
The RSL, an independent organisation established for individuals who have served, or are currently serving our country in The Australian Defence Force; are being failed by a Board of Directors at Wingham RSL who clearly don't have what it takes to run a business.
There are many small regional communities across our country who support very successful RSL's. Once a thriving meeting place for local community; is being failed by...
Read moreHave really wanted to post something great about this club for years but now I finally can. The club is friendly and inviting, we always get a genuinely nice greeting from reception as we walk in. Bar staff have really stepped up, they pay attention to you and seem to enjoy their jobs lately. The biggest improvement has been the restaurant, Chef Dean has made such a positive impact on the quality of dishes and the way the staff interact with customers. Tonight my husband and I shared the Tempura honey prawns and the Salt & pepper calamari, we've had these dishes before but tonight they were so much better than our previous experiences. Will be looking out for the weekly specials and looking forward to Chef Dean putting his stamp...
Read moreClubs like the Wingham RSL play an important role in community, particularly in rural locations. The staff were very friendly and pleasant, but the food is very disappointing. Average, is probably being generous in my description of the food.
The biggest downside of our dining experience at the Wingham RSL, is the fact that inside the dining room is a children's playground. While accommodating for families is a wise idea for any business, whoever made the decision to put a playground in the dining room really made a big mistake.
We could have sat in the McDonald's playground in Taree and had a better experience with a McChicken...
