Gamble & Brown Cafe — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Okay... to start off, the food here is lovely, good sized portions, fresh and presentable and came out rather quick

Coffee beans were nice too, a nice dark roast with strong bitter hints of cherry and a caramel sweetness to it

The venue is beautiful as well as the location 😊

However... (and I'm not a complainer)

But the service here was appalling! Absolutely no one smiled, the tables were not set at all, not one service staff had there's eyes up and were willing to engage with any of the customers which makes me resort to waving and chasing them for napkins and table salt or to even just ask a question. I understand being where it is that the venue reflects its surroundings and is fitted to be a convenient cafe for people doing there shopping and want a quick lunch or just a coffee to go, but in the spirit of that. All service has been eliminated and has cut off any intention for customers to return

Further to my original post my last three visits over the past four weeks were very disappointing. First the coffee was very bitter, on the next visit coffee took ages and served just Luke warm and lacked flavour .On my last visit the cappuccino lacked flavour, far too much milk. Not happy G & B !! Can't understand why the standard has dropped, maybe a change in staff,and or management. A real shame, I really enjoyed my visits aside from the last three. There is plenty of competition in the area to enjoy a great coffee, sorry but my vote and custom is going elsewhere.

09/10/19 coffee today was good, however food prices not on display; now know why, price increase and EXPENSIVE compared to Euro and Joslin...

20 mins after ordering meal I was still waiting for it. Approached staff only to be told my order hadn’t been processed. They forgot. Took my money but. I told them don’t worry about it I’ll get a refund. Paid on my card but they couldn’t refund my card. Gave me cash. As I was sorting the coinage in my hand I was rudely told it’s all there, I can guarantee it in a very sarcastic tone as she walked away shaking her head. I politely told her I wasn’t counting the change & don’t be so rude. Another male employee then rudely put his hand up & said bye. Service was appalling by staff.
