Blackbutt Hotel — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Stayed here for 4 nights with my wife and found the place a real delight. While my wife was apprehensive about staying in a hotel her fears were quickly put to rest by the operator. There is also an elevator to your room for those that have mobility problems. No need to drag your luggage upstairs. The room we stayed in was reasonably priced and we'll equipped. Many of the rooms have been refurbished. The mattress was not cheap and so provided us with a good night's sleep. The handiest thing of all was the fantastic food that could be supplied downstairs in the bistro. Compared to other places in the area the food was cheap and of high quality. There was also a large variety of dishes from steak, seaf ood, pasta and Asian stir fried. Excellent value. You could also get breakfast at the hotel, either in your room or downstairs in the Lounge Bar. Again there was a wide variety of breakfasts ranging from cereal, to bacon and eggs, the way you like them, through to more exotic modern breakfasts. The staff went out of their way to cater to our every need. I wouldn't hesitate staying there again and plan on doing that in a couple of weeks time. Considering the central location of the Blackbutt Hotel to the John Hunter Hospital, Kotara Shopping Centre and Newcastle itself I do not hesitate to recommend this establishment as a place to stay in the Newcastle area. Convenient and reasonably priced you can't go...

Updated review: Haven't had a bad meal or cocktail here yet...till tonight. Long story short.. terrible. Unfortunately. Last meal we had here about 5wks ago..was wonderful. Couldn't fault it. Lamb shanks..melt in yr mouth to die for. In a delicious sauce. Chicken wings.. delish..margaritas ..perfect. As always. We went tonight. Had virtually the same again bc so good last time. Complete other end of the scale 😠 The shank no sauce, pale colour, tough/rubbery..even hard to cut with a knife. Vegetables..mash hard, broccoli hard..corn ribs..like rubber. Wings not cooked properly..lumpy coating/sauce. Unpleasant. Lamb cutlets.. very oily, n oily tasting. & not fresh oil. The girl taking our order looked like she'd checked out ages ago. Engagement/interest..virtually nil. Margaritas..watery. I've had worse, but not good n not for there..usually spot on. Nearly $150 later, very unhappy. Not sure we ll b back. When that much not ok...hard to find a reason to go again.

Always mainstream nice. Not super exciting, but always consistent nice enjoyable food. A couple more entree choices would b good though. I went there last night alone as I wanted to see music, I've hardly seen any in 3 yrs now! Or I wouldn't have gone. I was going to eat a couple of bananas for dinner, then ended up getting the vegan schnitzel chips & salad. There was just a few others eating there. I was told it didn't go through, I tried to tell the girl but she didn't listen that it didn't have the $24 on the machine. Then paid, saw it was a 24c surcharge first. Then they brought out pizza, then no sweet chilli, went & asked, & no salt & pepper. I ate some then asked for shakers, none on any tables, then handed a salt & a pepper sachet by the young woman who gave me the sauce. The service was bland & I had a bad feeling about them with how they were. I ate quick in less than 20 min, & just missed a couple songs when eating then moved then went out & saw the rest. I will not go there again. I got this in January 2021 once somewhere else & it was $2 or $3 less with gravy, & salt & pepper that all tables normally have! & happy friendly...
