Went in for lunch today and from the start the service was cold and rude. My partner and I got sat at a table right against a pillar so we moved to a different table when one was free. The girl that served us gave my partner a dirty look because we'd moved one table over. We ordered our drinks and when they arrived we were sorely disappointed. We paid $5.50 for an iced chai latte which, I kid you not, was a glass of milk with cinnamon dusted on top as well as a normal chai latte that was half the size, luke warm and the powder hadn't been mixed in properly so every mouthful was chunky. We than waited 15 minutes to have our food order taken. The food came out quickly and it was mediocre - my mushroom dish was drowned in sherry vinegar and my partner's big breakfast was cold and soggy. When we paid for the meal the girl at the counter set up the eftpos machine and then turned her back to us. My partner said goodbye with no response, not even a look from any of the staff. This place needs to have their customer service standards revised but we won't see any changes because we're never...

Disaster…. We came for Mother’s Day and also booked a table weeks prior. For us to have the experience we did, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and nor would we ever come back.

Firstly, our chai lattes came luke warm which isn’t a big issue but the series of events at this venue resulted them in a 2 star rating…

We were told a 30 minute wait for food which is already astronomical for a cafe but we weren’t going to leave after everyone had just arrived. The wait time ended up being 50 minutes… which is absolutely insane for a cafe that wasn’t even full. Even so, it shouldn’t take this long.

The food was okay, nothing special or worth it for the amount time we waited. I also had egg shells in my “mushrooms” dish which was very off putting.

We also had a member that’s Coeliac and they said that the prawn toast is safe for her to eat, then came back to us and said it’s fried in contaminated oil and asked if that was okay… I mean for everyone who knows what coeliac disease is. It’s not ok…

Overall, for a cafe that isn’t cheap, the service wasn’t up to standards and nor...

Good points: food was good but that was about it. Bad points: 1 table of six sat after us had their orders taken, finished their food, left, and tables cleaned before we got our food. Two tables of two each sat just before us had the same too. Ordered iced taro latte but wasn’t told it was not available but got an iced mocha latte instead- if I did not ask, I would not have been told- admittedly the different colour would have tipped me off. My food order was also wrong- brought me the wrong dish- if I did not say anything, they would have gotten away with it. There was no word of apology until we said that we were going to leave because 40 minutes of waiting for food after ordering is unreasonable. They only removed the cost of the drinks because of the mix up, not because of the long delay. Overall: food was decent but don’t bother coming if it even looks somewhat busy, unless you have work or an assignment to distract you. They cannot cope. The coffee was...

Amazing! Mockingbird is simply gorgeous. The food is fabulous, the service is wonderful and the atmosphere is buzzing. It gets busy for brunch on a Saturday morning, we arrived about 10.30am and had about a 10 minute wait. I had seen the Red Velvet pancakes on social media and was busting to try them - they exceeded my expectations. Everything on the plate was perfectly balanced. They were not over the top sweet (I thought they would be) every element was spot on. The lemon curd, marscarpone, berries, Persian floss and syrup were all wonderful - add those pancakes in and it was heaven. To top it off it is one of the prettiest dishes you will ever see💓 Every meal that was coming out to other diners looked fantastic and I will be going back to try plenty of other dishes on the menu. The coffee is excellent as well. This is one of Newcastle’s stand out cafes - highly recommended!

Deep Fried Brownie. I'm not huge on sweets, so hearing such a thing existed was an epiphany. This is what caused me to try the place. The brownie was everything I'd hoped for and more, its also available GF! The taste was amazing, especially the hardened bits of caramel, mixing everything on the plate was mind numbingly delicious, the serving size was perfect, and it looked amazing. I also had the portabello mushrooms + poached eggs. To be honest I wasn't expecting much for the breakfast foods, and my expectations were absolutely shattered. This particular dish is something I'd gladly go back for. Initially I came for the deep fried brownie, but I'll be visiting again to try more of their menu, especially if it's anything like what I tried the first time around.
